Portland not addressing this center position will continue to cost them. More reasons why Dame should want out as this organizations fail to address the weakness of the team
They don’t need a center. Nobody needs a center today. Nurkic is fine.
What they need is a co-star who doesn’t have the exact same skill set as Dame.
Not sure how frequently you really have to worry about running into ADI'm not talking about a true center. They need an athlete big who can defend. When you're going to be running into guys like Jokic and AD frequently, you do need that

Denver was stupid for not fouling. I hate that teams can simply foul when up by 3 in the closing seconds, but since it's available, a smart coach should use it. Instead, we are treated to Dame Lillard shooting 3's.

But you can’t build a roster like that.
Do they need someone to guard opposing bigs?
Yes. But in all honesty, there are a lot of positions Portland can upgrade. If I were in charge there I would focus on getting a running mate for Dame who compliments him better than McCollum does. I don’t really care what position he plays if he fits.

Not just that. It is simple things such as being able to switch, P&R defense, or etc. A lot of centers now play outside and are fast so having slow guys at center is not ideal.
For example last year when Whiteside and Nurk were the centers on the team, the Lakers who didn't have a big who played inside much just destroyed them in the pick and roll then the times they were matched up on AD, he just did what he wanted to do. If they played him tight then he used his speed and if not then he killed them with his mid range game.
