Denver was stupid for not fouling. I hate that teams can simply foul when up by 3 in the closing seconds, but since it's available, a smart coach should use it. Instead, we are treated to Dame Lillard shooting 3's.

Portland not addressing this center position will continue to cost them. More reasons why Dame should want out as this organizations fail to address the weakness of the team

They don’t need a center. Nobody needs a center today. Nurkic is fine.

What they need is a co-star who doesn’t have the exact same skill set as Dame.

I'm not talking about a true center. They need an athlete big who can defend. When you're going to be running into guys like Jokic and AD frequently, you do need that

Not sure how frequently you really have to worry about running into AD

Saw Coach Malone's interview after the game this morning. The reason he said they didn't foul Dame was he was worried he'd drain a 3 and get a 4 point play.

"a smart coach should have used it"

:pound:

No much of a fan of Malone's, think he's an asshole. Two season ago when all Nuggets games were first blacked out locally he said if people were real fans they would buy a ticket and go to the game.

And earlier in this series he had another asshole moment when the person interviewing him called him Mike instead of Michael and was rude to the reporter.

I never watch hoops.. I kind of gave up on the NBA when the Pistons started sucking. I'd never heard of Lillard & Jokić until last night, for example. But I turned this one on with about 4 minutes left. What a game. I've never seen anything quite like what Lillard did down the stretch. That was insane. Too bad he didn't have much help. I'm going to have to start tuning in more often.

But you can’t build a roster like that.

Do they need someone to guard opposing bigs?

Yes. But in all honesty, there are a lot of positions Portland can upgrade. If I were in charge there I would focus on getting a running mate for Dame who compliments him better than McCollum does. I don’t really care what position he plays if he fits.

I'm not saying it is the #1 thing they should do. That should be as you said finding a better running mate for Dame but they do need a nice athletic big who can defend. Does not need to be some big name. Could even be a player who can give them 15 MPG or so as a backup but their bigs are so bad at not only man-man defense against other centers but the P&R defense is just as bad.

Not just that. It is simple things such as being able to switch, P&R defense, or etc. A lot of centers now play outside and are fast so having slow guys at center is not ideal.

For example last year when Whiteside and Nurk were the centers on the team, the Lakers who didn't have a big who played inside much just destroyed them in the pick and roll then the times they were matched up on AD, he just did what he wanted to do. If they played him tight then he used his speed and if not then he killed them with his mid range game.

Dumb foul by Jokic. Just give him the free 2.

Now you got 2 fouls 6.5 into the game.
