Good chance that the Giants sign Jackson Flora to an underslot deal, so that they can reallocate that money to these next few picks.

Why do you say that? Flora was pretty much the consensus #4 player in the draft. And he is a Jr, so he has negotiating power.

I think he is a microcosm of the offense for the whole team. Their numbers look a lot better than their actual performance because of a few blowouts. I know that most teams could say that about their players but most other teams get a little more out of their offense more often than the Giants do.

He grew up a big Giants fan. And he is unlikely to ever have draft value higher than it is now. We may get him at slightly under slot ($8.99m), but I doubt we get a big discount.

I certainly hope you are right, but I have never really understood the draft bonus game, so…. Whatever.

Jason Foley is presenting an interesting challenge for the Giants' brass. After 1 rough appearance with San Jose to start his rehab assignment on May 10th, he was moved up to Sacramento and rattled off 6 straight scoreless appearances, covering 6.2 IP, giving up 4 hits and no walks, while striking out 5. He then gave up 2 runs in 1 inning pitched on June 2nd, only to throw another 3 innings, across 3 games, giving up 1 unearned run on 4 hits, a walk and 2 strike outs. All told, in his first 10 games with the RiverCats, he went 10.2 IP, giving up 8 hits, 3 runs (2 earned) and 1 walk with 8 strikeouts (1.69 ERA, 0.844 WHIP).

Then, on June 16th, his rehab assignment suddenly got rocky. He went a full inning but gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits and a walk, no strikeouts. 5 of his last 8 appearances have seen him give up at least 1 run. 4 of those 5 have been multiple runs. In those last 8 appearances, he has posted a 17.05 ERA and 2.842 WHIP in 6.3 IP. He struck out 6 batters in those appearances but 3 of them came in a hopeful last outing where he struck out the side, without putting any runners on.

He is now 2 months in on his rehab assignment. The rules get murky at this point for pitchers rehabbing from major surgery. It is my understanding that, beyond the normal 30 day rehab assignment for pitchers, teams can extend the assignment out another 10 days, up to 3 times, but must get approval from the pitcher every time they extended it out 10 days.

Based on the fact that his rehab started May 10th, the Giants should have exhausted not only the normal 30 day rehab but all 3 10 day extensions. However, there is a 9 day gap between appearances for him from June 3rd to June 12th. I don't know why there is that gap because just about all of his appearances came between 1 to 4 days from the last one. Maybe his rehab restarted at that point. There was nothing announced that I know of but a reset could explain why the Giants haven't been required to activate him yet. If it did get reset during that time frame, it conveniently happened just as the 30 day window was closing. Perhaps the Giants now have the ability to extend him out another month to see if the rust starts to come off and he starts throwing more like he did early in his rehab. I don't know, but what I do know is that his rehab has taken a long time and he has looked worse as it has progressed.

Maybe he gets enough runway from here to the trading deadline to get some team interested but I wonder if the Giants sitting on him for two months may have killed any possibility of a trade for him. Of course, if he put up the same results with the Giants that he did this past month in Sacramento, that would also have killed any trade value. I have my doubts that he gets moved but maybe a team thinks that he is worth cash considerations or a PTBNL.

Actually, through 2028. So no, not the worst thing ever if we don't trade him (as long as he is serviceable in 2027 or 2028. If he bombs, that it would stink to not have gotten something in return for him before he had no value whatsoever).
