I think the .300 would have been difficult. His last 3 seasons had him batting .286, .270 & .276.

And hitting 38 home runs as a 43 year old would have been difficult as well.

The WAR part would have been the most difficult, though. According to BBRef, the last season he posted a season with at least a 7.2 WAR was 2004. The last 3 seasons were 0.6, 4.0 & 3.4. Granted, 2005 was an injury marred season. But even with two healthy seasons he couldn't get above 4.0.

But this is Bonds we are talking about. If it was important for him to get to these numbers, he would have likely done it, even at that age.

He didn't pay anywhere in 2008 because of declining production, that is for sure (okay, maybe declining for him).

He would have easily gotten the 4 RBI, but he would have needed AT LEAST 2 season to get the final 38 HRs and his days of hitting .300 were well behind him.

I do find it interesting that Chapman was going to be activated without a minor league rehab assignment but Cox gets sent to AAA for a rehab assignment when he went on the IL after Chapman. Maybe veteran preference?
