Hope the Giants at least listen to offers on him. Because he should be treated like a possible free agent for the 2027 off season because of that player opt out. Maybe he likes it in SF and will stay but I have my doubts on that. The Giants at least have Webb through 2028 and can entertain offers for him in the future if things are still looking bleak.

I'd prefer that they extend JHL, but given the looming lockout they probably won't.

But I think part of that is looking at the player's trajectory. Lee's is going up. I would expect other teams to approach him as a stud rental, with hopes for more. Some team is going to gamble that there will be a 2027 season and treat him as a 1.5 year rental, insomuch as maybe putting in the best offer to the Giants for him. I would expect that deal would look awfully good for a half season rental.

Again, I do hope the Giants listen to offers on him. I think that they may be surprised on what they could get in return.

To be clear, I hope they are LISTENING to offers for Eldridge. “Listening” and “Trading” are two totally different acts.

Eldridge is a rookie with team control until 2031. Some team could possibly come in with a return package that may bowl over the FO. I highly doubt it though.

Lee is a marketable asset but he could be gone after 2027. He is also 6 years older and took longer to figure out how to hit in this league. For me, he has been a pleasant surprise this year. I did not expect him to do this well. I think a team could well offer a better package for him than for Eldridge, mainly because he is older, had some time to establish himself in Korea and would be seen as easier to pry away from the Giants.

And my wording on best offer was poor. I meant that I could see some team come in with a best offer that looks better than what a typical half rental return would be. The ONLY reason JHL would ever attract a “better” offer than one for Eldridge would be because teams aren’t even trying for Eldridge. At this point, Eldridge is one of the ELITE values in the entire sport.

But ignoring that semantic argument, I completely disagree that JHL could possibly have a higher trade value than Eldridge. The player option (the term “opt-out” is so stupid. It is a “player option”) makes his contract status WAY too variable for a buying team. While it is possible he will be traded, I would SHOCKED if he were dealt.

You know he will be gone by August 2nd. Likely Ray will be too. Not too sure beyond them who will be traded but the Giants have a few names on that list BBTR created.

Pure speculation, but worth exploring for the Mets and Giants: A deal involving Willy Adames and Marcus Semien. The Giants would have to eat a good chunk of money in Adames's deal to make it happen, but Adames could play third, Bichette could move to second, and Semien would return to the Bay Area. SF has signaled a willingness to listen to offers for Adames, Chapman, Devers.

This seems like silly speculation to me. If we're going to eat money, why would we take on a 3 year deal for pretty good money? OTOH, I guess he might be a defensive upgrade at SS?

It is interesting that the Giants have kept Jason Foley on rehab with Sacramento for so long. If this is a "trade everyone with any value who won't be with the team very long" wouldn't it be worth it to have him up with the big league club for a month before the trade deadline to see if other teams are going to be willing to trade for him.

Yes, he is a relief pitcher so the return won't be overwhelming, but he is also a relief pitcher, which is always in high demand and could get some return (maybe better than what Mahle could get). I do realize that Foley has been tagged a bit lately with the RiverCats but that doesn't mean that he would also be the same if he were with SF.

I get that he is coming back from a major injury and normally teams will bring them back slowly but this isn't a normal season. There is no need to strengthen the bullpen by making sure a guy is fully ready and no longer has rust before being activated. They should roll the dice, hope he looks good in the big leagues and can establish some interest from other teams.
