Maybe this is the year that Nix won’t need as much handholding with play calls. That aspect of the game should feel like a net improvement, with any luck.

If Bo Nix starts slow in the first 5-7 games of the season like he did last year, are there concerns for him going forward as our guy and for his contract negotiations?

It wasn't until after that atrocious Thursday night game against the Raiders he seemed to shake off the sluggish starts.

I think it would cause me at least a little hesitation. Once he gets paid there is a decent chance we see a decline in the defense because we cannot afford to keep all the players that we have and will be depending on the draft more than ever to make up for the fact he will be making $60 million or more per year. So him starting slow won't work. Last year he was helped by a defense that kept him in games until he could do the 4th quarter magic. The best QB's are the ones that can win when the defense isn't having a great game and need the offense to pick it up.

From the sounds of training camp so far though the offense seems light years ahead of where they were last year at this point. Given pads have not fully come on and that seems to be the practices that show what the defense can bring to the table. We know this is a top-5 defense so if when the pads come on and the offense is still at least holding their own I will feel much better about a faster start for Nix and the offense.

I'm always torn on this. It is good for players to get on the field and maybe take a hit or two before the season starts, but the risk of injuries is tough to think about as well for a meaningless game. If Bo plays you can't put him out there with the 2nd string guys so that means the other 10 starters mostly have to be on the field increasing the odds one of them gets hurt.

Payton has historically had slower starts even with Brees. Belichick/Brady had the same thing. Not sure what the reasoning is behind it.

I am not sure McLaughlin would survive cuts though. RB is a position where things change so fast and it is almost guaranteed a team will be looking for RB depth during cut down time and he has a lot of skills that would make him a valuable commodity in that scenario.

I honestly didn't expect McLaughlin to survive cuts this year when we re-signed him. We basically said go ahead and see what else is out there and when nothing came up we told him to come on back if he was good with it.

I do think there is a good chance he clears waivers though and ends up back on our PS. Payton has always been pretty true to him so I think he would be an easy guy to get back on the PS... Now, as injuries start to pile up it could be hard to keep him on the PS but most teams have a similar back to him so you don't often see smaller RB's 4 years into the league claimed off waivers after cutdown day.

I would not be upset . He won games for two years .. slow starts . He had usat the door of the SB ... I would be more worried about Webb .

Webb job is not his system . His Job is getting Bo in the best place to Succeed . as a coach You don't do what you want you add to what that player can do best .

We have his(Bo) base. Add small things .. like blazing fast play calling . Bo likes Now !!!!

All of our players did team friendly contracts . even if I thought they were nuts we now have a core for a couple years

to me those prices seem nuts . I am not use to those numbers.. but they were dirt cheap compared to other teams ....

The Contacts we signed last year were crazy good .. we have 4 years window . That is with 4 years with a brain dumb GM . we are in a great place ! We will be having great Drafts .

As For Bo I feel he is very much grounded ! We are set for a good long while.

Well few things...1) Brady had himself a wife making way more money than him at the time. He was not the sole provider for his family. And even when you look at his deals he really didn't take a huge discount. They just did some fancy accounting to keep his yearly cap hit down. 2) Brady also had an under the table deal or at least something that looks that way for his company being on the Patriots property and not being charged. I guess Walton's could do something similar but it is very much in the gray area of how things work. 3) I don't blame players for getting all they can. You cannot count on being in the league in 3 years. What I'm hoping the Broncos do if Bo goes and has himself a great year is they start working on a deal like what Mahomes has. Maybe not quite as long, but gives them more flexibility down the road.

And yes Carl we need to be mighty carful to live to NFL standards . But Player like Steven Atwater should be token care of like even this this owner is ! he was a wonderful player and a Person . This owner ship will take care of it's players . you can tell . they will not have to over pay.

Ownership can do a lot, but you have to remember players are very leery of trusting ownership. A handshake deal is not enough these days. Ownership can promise him the moon, but that doesn't mean they will follow through. And they cannot write anything down because that is illegal and could really hurt the Broncos if it is found out that they tried to stretch the rules about salary cap/contract talk.

I do think this is a top-5 ownership group in the NFL, but if I am Bo or any of the other players my willingness to take less or help the team out is limited. Maybe a few million less per year here and there for Bo but not even a 25% type discount.

Well to have a great OL you need money is what I would then tell you and to think of long term . but I see a smart person in Bo . his price will make me shake my head like the signings we seen last year and yet it will be a really good deal for the Broncos
