Notable departures. Joe Lombardi, Keary Colbert, Addison Lynch, Jim Leonhard and Pete Carmichael all from the coaching staff.
Davis Webb starts his rookie season as Offensive Coordinator and play caller for the Broncos Offense this year. While the fan base seems relieved Sean Payton is relinquishing those duties and there won't be nine billion screen plays, fans should temper expectations a bit. Webb is brilliant, smart and will learn quickly...but he's still a rookie OC and he's going to make mistakes. Our version of the Greatest Show on Turf would be awesome...but let's keep it in perspective.
All five starters on the O-Line return intact and healthy.
There's a crowded backfield with Dobbins, McLaughlin, Harvey, Coleman, Badie and Schrader.
I am excited about Jonah Coleman. He's a 4th round pick but he has a chip on his shoulder due to no one believing in him because of his size. He is only 5'8, but at 220 lbs he is powerful, dynamic and versatile and he can get low on defenders and explode through the line. Can he crack into the rotation or will he land on the practice squad? If Dobbins goes down, I think this kid could shine BIG this season.
The Broncos expect big things from JK Dobbins who no doubt will perform...but the question on everyone's mind is can he and will he stay healthy and prove his doubters wrong? History has shown he hasn't been able to this far. I'd like to be optimistic about him...but I have my doubts.
The big offseason move was the acquisition of WR Jaylen Waddle. His annual average receptions are 82 and around 968 yds and 6 TD's, the Broncos need much better production from the WR who didn't crack 1,000 yds last year. A big year of 100+ receptions, 1300-1400 yds receiving and 10-14 TD's would be HUGE for Waddle and the offense.
The TE position leaves much to be desired with Trautman and Engram returning. The Broncos also drafted Jolly and could challenge Krull and Adkins for a roster spot. Dallen Bentley seems to me like another wasted draft pick who virtually has zero chance to make the roster.
Bo Nix improved last season over his rookie year. I look for him to take another huge step forward with his decision making and decisiveness. Improvements in accuracy, avg yards and not having shaky starts and first halves will go a long ways to silencing the doubters who rudely ranked him 19th in the league. Bo should have full command of the offense at this point. We know and have seen he can make all the throws under pressure and in the clean pocket. I would like to see him trust the pocket a little more and not take off scrambling when it's not really necessary.
I don't see the offense taking a step back this year from last year, but the running game needs to be consistent, the WR's need to have fewer drops and the TE's must produce when it counts. Look for the O-Line to return to elite form and give Bo a healthy pocket to find open receivers and open up big holes for the running backs.
