Welp! Another year, another opportunity to see how well members of this board and others are at prognosticating the fortunes or misfortunes of the Washington Commanders football team. I know that hopes run high and disappointment could come with a season that doesn't quite live up to last year's entry into the NFCCG.
By almost all accounts, this team is an improvement over last year's team, but what does "improvement" mean when the vast majority of NFL teams can also boast about improvements from the previous season? What other metric will you use to make a more considered prediction? For me, there's one thing that I'm certain of, and another that cannot be accounted for; each is intertwined and key to another successful season.
Oddsmakers have the over/under win total at 9.5 this year, and the Commanders enter the 2025 NFL season riding a wave of momentum after a breakout 2024 campaign that saw them finish 12–5 and reach the NFC Championship Game. With Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels at the helm, expectations are sky-high—and for good reason.
That's my write-up for the season, and you might have noticed no W/L prediction this year. There's a very good reason for that omission, but I'm looking forward to reading and noting what your predictions are this year. Good luck, and remember the over/under win total is 9.5.

Offense: Built to Explode
- Jayden Daniels looks poised to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump. His dual-threat ability and elite decision-making—especially on fourth downs, where he posted historic efficiency—make him one of the most dangerous QBs in the league.
- New weapons like Deebo Samuel and rookie RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt add versatility and explosiveness to an already potent attack.
- Terry McLaurin, fresh off a contract extension, remains a reliable deep threat and chemistry magnet for Daniels.
- The offensive line, anchored by Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil and first-round pick Josh Conerly Jr., should give Daniels time to operate and open lanes for the run game.
Defense: The X-Factor
- The Commanders addressed their biggest weakness—run defense—by signing Javon Kinlaw and Von Miller and adding depth across the line.
- Veteran leadership from Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu should stabilize the linebacker corps.
- The secondary remains a work in progress, but if the front seven can generate pressure, it may not need to be elite.
Schedule & Division Outlook
- Washington benefits from a favorable early-season schedule, facing several non-playoff teams in the first six weeks.
- The NFC East remains competitive, with the Eagles defending their Super Bowl title, the Giants retooling, and the Cowboys now more heavily dependent upon offensive production after dealing Micah Parsons to Green Bay a week ago.
- Still, Washington’s continuity and upgraded roster give them a real shot at the division crown.
Final Prediction
If Daniels and others stay healthy and the defense takes even a modest step forward, the Commanders could have another nice season. Still, a word of caution is necessary here, as older teams generally tend to incur more injuries than their younger counterparts. I am deeply concerned about this and even more cautious about the outlook this year if they have to rely on depth for any extended period of time. That's my write-up for the season, and you might have noticed no W/L prediction this year.
