Week 1 in the books... big divisional win at home.

Good:
  • That did not look like typical Packers 1st regular season game... very clean, no turnovers and only 4 penalties for 40 yards
  • Defensive effort very physical
  • Lions 46 yards rushing, 2.1 yards per rush
  • 4 sacks for 25 yards and 9 tackles for loss... Packers defensive front controlled line of scrimmage
  • Williams interceptions
  • Defense in the red zone holding Lions to 2 FGs
  • Jacobs rushing ball in 2nd half
  • No turnovers by offense (but 2 throws by Love on consecutive plays brought out some choice words by me)
  • Whelan punting... 1 punt inside the 10 basically lead to Packers TD after Gary sack
  • McManus good on 2 FGs and 3 extra points
Bad:
  • Injuries... hopefully Tom injury not serious
  • Packers rushing the ball in 1st half
  • Felt Packers got a little conservative early 2nd half
Ugly:
  • Nothing
Short turnaround for Thursday Night game.

As I mentioned earlier, they made Goff move on most of his deep drops, and to me that was key. I was kind of worried about inside pressure, but Wooden and Wyatt came to life. Granted this isn't the same OLine the Lions had last year, but I'm not sure anybody has that good of a OLine this year.

Hopefully they won't read the press clippings and continue to work. Improvement every week would be very nice.

Week 2 in the books early with win on Thursday Night.

Good:
  • Fast physical defense once again
  • Held Washington less than 100 total yards end of 3rd quarter (ended with 230)
  • Washington 2.7 yards/carry for game
  • Defense 4 sacks for 21 yards, 3 TFL
  • Daniels looked like he heard footsteps in the pocket (12 QB hits) and was not comfortable
  • Daniels only 17 yards on 7 scrambles/carries
  • Balanced offense - 33 pass plays and 31 rushes
  • Tucker Kraft huge night with 6 receptions for 124 yards and a TD
  • Packers offense responded with TD after Washington 1st TD
  • Love very efficient and good decisions... nearly 300 yards and 2 TD passes
  • Love getting Packers into scoring position at end of first half after Washington missed FG
  • Liked Williams wildcat play call and Golden on the jet sweeps
Bad:
  • Penalties and special teams play... kept the Commanders in the game
  • Packers 10 penalties for 77 yards
    • Hobbs hold on 4th down stop giving Washington new set of downs
    • FitzPatrick hold negated 1st down
  • Special teams 15 yard penalty and 2 decent returns allowed Washington shorter fields
  • McManus missed FG at end of 1st half
  • Thought Packers 2nd series of 2nd half play calling ultra conservative that lead to 3 and out
  • Jayden Reed injury
Ugly:
  • Nothing ugly with the big win
Hopefully Packers can rest up and get some players back for game at Browns. Good to start 2-0 vs 2 playoff opponents from 2024.

Prettu much spot on. A few things that I like were they kept Daniels inside or didn't leave wide open running lanes which I though were going to be key. Wyatt came to life, again late in the game. We might actually have a defense. LaFleur needs to do a better job with 2nd half adjustments. It's kind of been an ongoing theme where the O hibernates for most of the 3rd quarter when they have the lead. Not sure exactly what it is, but he needs to make better adjustments anticipating the opponents adjustments on D or open up the O. Whatever it is, he needs to take a good look at that aspect as it's been part of the team since day 1 of him being HC. Other than that, the game was pretty much a domination with a lull in a good part of the 2nd half. Not really complaining, but an observation.

One more thing. The kicking game to me is very important and for some reason it seems that the transition game is somewhat neglected. It something that usually doesn't show up in the box score but can be a bit part of winning games. I would really like to see them become very solid in that part of the game, something I haven't been comfortable watching for a very long time.

This is one of the truly huge differences with the Packers D compared to years past and @Moab picked up on it too. In the past against mobile QBs, GB D would either over-contain and leave the middle wide open or over-collapse and leave the outside wide open for opposing QBs to exploit. We seem to have found the right positional balance and are rallying to the ball with speed and numbers. Hope this persists!

Can't seem to shake the injury bug to our receivers. Every year we're tapping 5's to be 1's & 2's on the depth chart. Thanks be to Gutey & co. for building good depth at those positions.

At some point this organization really needs to take the kicking game seriously.

I’m still processing what I just witnessed in our game and some others.

There aren't many things that irritate me more than knowing a weakness and ignoring it or not giving it enough attention to fix it.

I haven't seen the game, just knew as soon as the false start moved them back that kick would be blocked, mostly because of the historical weakness of the kicking game. I don't know if the front got blown up, the kick was low, the edge wasn't secured and it really doesn't matter because they just hope the kicking game issues will resolve themself. Sorry, it you don't work on fixing it, it will not be fixed.
