Having traded for CMC and with Mitchell about to come off IR, the Niners were RB-heavy and someone had to go. Moving Wilson leaves the Niners with CMC, Mitchell, Tyrion Davis-Price and Jordan Mason at RB. Wilson wasn't going to get much action once Mitchell returned, so he was the odd man out.

Wilson already knows the scheme in Miami, so he can hit the ground running.

I've always thought that the in-division ban trading players and draft picks was stupid. Value is value whether it comes from the AFCN or the NFCN. And that is ESPECIALLY true when it comes to draft where no one really knows what they are getting. This Hock trade is a little different but if this was the best offer the Lions could get then they should take it. The Lions being good in the future has next to nothing to do with how good the VIkes will or wont be 3 or 4 years down the road. You can only try to improve your team. Not worry about anyone else.

At first blush I thought this was a little too much to trade for him. But that was when it was reported he was a UFA at the end of this year (that is wrong....he has his 5th year tag). A year and a half for him still seems a little much but not that bad. I bet that 2nd 4th rounder that is conditional coming back to the Vikings is conditional on a contract extension or franchise tag.

Hockenson is a 1st round bust. He is a solid TE. Nothing more, nothing less. He was just used a lot because the Lions didnt have anywhere else to try and throw the ball. That isnt what any of us thought he would be years ago in the draft. Honestly him and Tyler Conklin who the Vikes let walk in FA this offseason is pretty damn close to each other.

Sux to lose a 1st but I can’t complain much about it. We need to get more pressure on the QB.

Jets trade Jacob Martin to the Broncos for a pick swap (Broncos' 2024 4th for Jets' 2024 5th)

Hockenson last year:
84 targets 61 catches 586 yards 4 TD's

Conklin last year:
87 targets 61 catches 593 yards 3 TD's.

The difference between them is nothing more than usage. Hockenson is NOT a dynamic TE that is going to haul in a ton of balls Kelce style. And he isnt even close to the same type of player that Kittle is both in the YAC and in blocking.

His stats are a product of being a 1st round draft pick who was forced the ball for a long time in order for a GM/team to prove they didnt miss on an early draft pick. I guarantee you that he has one of the worst receptions per target percentage of any TE around the league.

And Hockenson was exposed as a blocker after everyone thought he was pretty good his first couple years once Detroit actually put a competent OL around him.

He's a solid TE. Nothing more, nothing less. A little bit better than league average. And maybe he has some untapped potential that the Vikes can get out of him. But I wouldn't have ultra high expectations simply because he is NOT a huge difference maker on the football field.

But he certainly fills a needed hole on the football field for us. So that is good. And unlike our bust TE in Smith, he will be able to play the inline position better while still also representing someone that the defense can not ignore like they would a non pass catching threat like Mundt.
