He was hurt for one of the series, one he lost to the Spurs, and I understand losing in the Finals.

I have thought about this again and I probably could change my mind later. I probably have a different answer than you do. But I like when Rudy blocks and when Stockton steals. You go to the glass to lay it up and get blocked by somebody you know who is defensive, he did what his reputation said.

Gobert steals from the free-throw line, good play, but that’s a bit of a surprise to the person with the ball. Surprises are great, but going at Gobert is more of a challenge and Gobert stepped up. A three pointer made by Gobert would be special, but not reproducible beyond regular likelihood’s of being lucky. Stockton steals, that’s what he does and the ball handler knew that and was bested. Exception for the way Holiday stole it this time since it was like a blindside steal.
Yes, when thinking of a potential Gobert steal, I would want it to be a blindside steal.

Since that has the best chance of not having Gobert lose the ball back himself; and is more likely to set up an advantageous Jazz offensive possession for the rest of the team.

He was not hurt for the 2008 Spurs series.

The teams did have 3 days off before game 7, which might have helped the Spurs (although both teams play the same schedule in a series).

He kept passing the ball to Jannero Pargo. He also held the ball for too long, with little player movement.

He was hurt in the 2016 Portland series.

However, Austin Rivers started instead and played well.

8 assists, 0 turnovers, 21 points.

Not worthy of comparison, but even if it were, I‘m not too into coaching. Maybe years down the line. A win against Phoenix is not the same as going against MJ and YES, I know we had twenty other years to beat non-MJs, but ehh. I’m not concerned about being consistent. I put Malone over Duncan whereas championships would mean more to me if I were a non-Jazz fan. I am perfectly fine being biased; I’m not running for most objective or right. It’s my opinion and that’s it.
I don't focus on coaching, all the time.'

But, I also don't think I've seen a Finals with flawless coaching from one side.

Either I think coaching didn't matter, or I think someone could have done something better.

Not related to coaching itself, but it did not look like Budenholzer was having fun for most of these playoffs. It looked unhealthy.

I hope for his sake, he finally got some relief.

If Sloan coached in this era, I would ask for 2 things from him:

* Foul less.

* Take more 3's.

And, this is something I would hope he would not do:

* Don't do the switching stuff that so many teams do nowadays. Keep the the defensive principles that you had before (with less fouling).

Isiah Thomas, on NBA TV, talked about how Milwaukee needed to hedge screens more, and not get switched. That's the kind of stuff I agree with.

I am pretty happy with Snyder. Other than being too 3-happy, during a game here or there, I wouldn't ask him to do much different from what he did in the playoffs. It was more on the players. Snyder did the right things, I think. Maybe use Ingles a little more, but that's a small change, not a major one.

I guess I would have had more changes for the Jazz elimination game, since they blew another 25 point playoffs lead. Stop leaving Mann open. But other than that, win or lose, I think Snyder did fine.

as going against MJ
How much importance do you also give Pippen and Rodman, since they were also hall of famers?

I think they helped defeat the Jazz too, with what they did.

What about Budenholzer vs. Sloan?
BTW, I wasn't saying Budenholzer was better than Sloan.'

Just saying that some people might put him in another class, if the Bucks won.

Since the discussion was how other people evaluate things once people have a title.

I meant that he was hurt in one of those four series and another series his team played the Spurs, the eventual champions, I think. I was making excuses for Paul.

Pippen helped with his defensive goaltending grabbing of the net in the last game.

They took away Howard Eisley‘s three, counted Ron Harper’s three, didn’t call goaltending when Pippen grabbed the net on defense, and, of course, the push off. I might be wrong about which game the goaltending was on though.

I think Rodman helped by getting Malone to lose focus due to their upcoming wrestling match. In a regular season game, that would’ve been fine, but I didn’t like it in the Finals. It would not of mattered if the Jazz had won, and it might not have made a difference, but I didn’t like it in an important game. I don’t even remember if we won that particular game, but I don’t want anyone’s mind being there. It could just be Rodman, but I think this was set up. And when I say set up, I don’t mean practiced. I think it was just a distraction.

Were any of these from 1997?

Maybe you were. :)

Just providing the correct info:

His team never played the eventual champion Spurs.

2007 - Hornets missed playoffs. Spurs won the title.

2008 - Played the Spurs, and lost. Spurs would lose in the Western Conference Finals.

2014 - Clippers lost to OKC in the 2nd round. Spurs won the title but didn't play the Clippers.

I don’t know the goaltending one, but it was on a video by an NBA fan, not Jazz fan, on why there should have been a Game 7. So I presume that was that game. But that may have been the Malone two missed free throws, but that doesn’t make sense if it’s a different year. The rest I know happened in that push off year.

Not any more than those made by Jazz fans.

Well, you may have a point.

See my mistake here:

This video spent more than a year on YouTube, before someone corrected me that it was Michael Cooper, not Magic Johnson, that had the backcourt violation against John Stockton.
