2021 AFC Playoff Picture

Here we are about to enter the halfway point of the 2021 season and the standings in the AFC look strange.

Historically, most of the teams at the top of each Division have 8-0 or 7-1. Not in 2021.

The team with the best record this morning are the Titans at 6-2, followed by the Bills, Ravens and Raiders all at 5-2. The Bengals are at 5-3 with the Steelers and Chargers at 4-3.

The Patriots, Broncos and Browns are all at 4-4.

No one is unbeatable. The 4-4 teams all have games against the top four.

Yesterday was a tough day for the leaders as the Bengals got beaten by the Jets and the Bills were in a nail biter all day with the Dolphins who imploded in the 4th quarter. The final nine games of the season are going to be well worth the price of admission.

Bill has always said the season is broke into quarters and the goal is to win 1 more game in each quarter than the last. If you can do that you will go into the playoffs with momentum.

I use 2001 as the benchmark. They were 5 and 5, then reeled off 6 straight to win the division, get a bye then.... you all know the story.

It's a good standard to follow since to make the playoffs from 5 and 5 you need to get hot and being hot is the best way to enter the playoffs. But being under 500 ten games in is difficult to overcome.
