I hate to say it but I really question how much ownership wants to win.

Just doesn't make sense..... like why?

Come on Coyotes ownership! We have a conditional 3rd which becomes a second if they re-sign Hall. It becomes a first next year if he signs and they win a playoff round.

A couple weeks ago MSG Network was running "rookie games" featuring key early games for players who became stars. I tuned in one night to see the Devils John MacLean get his 1st NHL goal and Pat Verbeek get his first assist. It was a 1983 game against the Red Wings. I would have just been happy to see Johnny Mac score that goal (I still have a home white jersey of his) but as I watched a I noiced a few cool thingsfew cool things:
Three of the rookies in that game went on to have 20 year careers, two of them all 20 with the same team:

Ken Daneyko (Devils)
Steve Yzerman (Wings)
Pat Verbeek (Devils et al)

and 4 of the Red Wings players went on to head coaching and or front office jobs:

Yzerman
Barry Melrose
Colin Campbell
Ted Nolan

Arizona wins so the whole protected pick stipulation is over with. Now do we hope they lose next round and improve the first we get this year? Or do we want them to win and re-sign Hall, getting us another first next year?

On my offseason wish list is at least one Stanley Cup Champion to be added to the roster. We barely have playoff experience on this team, adding a player (or 2) that has won the cup I think is vital to making this team successful. A Justin Williams type, someone that can still contribute and knows what a winning locker room is, knows what it takes.

We're going to have a very young team and I want them being led by winners.

My top 3 off-season wishlist (outside of draft)

1: Get an impact defenseman. Whether it's a free agent like Krug or Pietrangelo or a trade with a cap strapped team, this is far and away our biggest need.

2: Get a champion on this team. We don't have a single cup winner on the roster (we barely have playoff experience outside of Zajac). Get a Justin Williams type of vet in here that knows what it takes and knows what a winning locker room should feel like.

3: A bodyguard. Watching guys like Tom Wilson, Ryan Reeves, Tkachuk etc throw other teams off their game, it's something this team desperately lacks. We need attitude, especially to protect our young guns. We sort of attempted it with Simmonds but he's broken down.

I'm good with this one. He's been a winner in his career so good guy to have around. Now to see who they bring in for defensive coach.

At 7 no. With 18 or 20 I would but I doubt he falls that far.
