Malik McDowell is not on the team.

He is still under contract. When he cleared waivers he was placed on the nonfootball injury list.

Transactions

  • Transaction, fine, and suspension data since 2015
July 27, 2018: Seattle Seahawks placed DT Malik McDowell on the non-football injury list.

July 26, 2018: Seattle Seahawks waived DT Malik McDowell.

August 5, 2017: Seattle Seahawks placed DT Malik McDowell on the non-football injury list.

May 30, 2017: Seattle Seahawks signed DT Malik McDowell to a four-year contract.

Malik McDowell Stats | Pro-Football-Reference.com

I don't know why the Seahawks didn't buy out his contract when they waived him (maybe because it would cost too much against the cap to do so) - but both sportrac and overthecap agree that McDowell is currently under contract with the Seahawks. He is set to cost $1,896,929 against the cap with $2,026,231 dead money before June 1.

One thing that I have noticed. A lot of the mock drafts that I have seen have us taking a EDGE in the 1st round.

Which would be fine with me, though I’ve seen one saying TE and another RB in the 3rd.

Yeah, that's absurd... Shows they have no clue what they're talking about... Those are the two deepest positions on the team...

Sounds like they did it as a courtesy, I don't think there is any chance he plays again.

I'd be really surprised if they took another running back. Chris Carson is obviously the featured back and Rashaad Penny played well. Those two give the Seahawks one of the better 1-2 punches in the NFL. We had the luxury of being able to use Mike Davis as well, but I don't see HB to be a priority.

I wouldn't draft a TE personally, but I could see the concern by the talking heads regarding the position since we didn't really have a receiving threat at the position + Will Dissly will be recovering from a pretty tough injury.

Vannett and Dickson are sort of meh, but the offense that Brian Schottenheimer has brought the Seahawks tends to rely more on blocking from TEs than play-making ability through the air. It would obviously be nice to have a receiving threat at that position, but I don't see it as a priority.

I don't expect him to play either - just like Kam. But, they are both under contract - so I listed them. If they're cut, then I'll update it.

Isn't Vannett a FA and Dickson's a potential cap casualty. And they can't count on Dissly being ready from Day 1 with his injury. I wouldn't be surprised if they added a TE or two this offseason.

Vannett is entering the final year of his rookie deal. Dickson could be a cap casualty - but with a savings of just $2.7 million - I'm not sure they do that, especially since they liked what he did this past season once he got on the field. Dissly could have issues coming back, as that injury is notorious for ruining careers. Swoopes is unlikely to be more than he was this past season - an emergency TE if needed. I don't think they couldn't bring in a TE this offseason - just not sure they draft one - let alone with their first round pick.

I could see it happening. Everyone is expecting Seattle will shore up the secondary, D-Line, or O-Line (yet there's really no OL prospects that great in this draft, even Taylor top 10 is bleh compared to what the 2020 class is showing).

So... because everyone is expecting that, Seattle will draft a tight end which will automatically get an F grade from all the analysts and sites. :rolleyes2:

That said, Dickson was overpaid from the beginning and did little last year. Dissly is really a shame but that injury can end careers. Vannett is a free agent and while okay, didn't seem like any major threat. Sucks to sacrifice a 3rd if we move on from him. Dissly was also brought in for his blocking, so I'm not sure how much of a receiver threat he'll ever be.

Waltfootball and his other analyst (Charlie) both have mocked Hockenson to the Seahawks for some time. Wouldn't shock me at all. Hockenson isn't necessarily a major blocking asset (unlike Dissly) but he adds a weapon for Wilson as his receiving attributes are solid, and the offensive class in general this year sucks for the draft.

Hockenson is also CRAZY athletic (although Fant wow'd me even more at the combine, but was second tier to Hockenson and has route issues, BLEH - worst trait of a TE we'd be drafting to primarily be a weapon receiver for Wilson) and his combine results were very solid with 4.7 and 37+ vert and incredible 7.02 cone. Hawks always tend to draft towards athletic players and while Noah Fant posted better measureables, I just don't consider him a plug/play from day 1, which we need.

Vannett has improved every season and on "This team" as shown by Graham who the Hawks had to force feed, TE don't do much other than block. He is a more than capable starter with solid blocking and the ability to get open and catch passes. Even though his chances to do so were limited. 17 of his 29 Catches were for first downs and his production has increased every year. Vannett is also a young guy that turns 26 in a couple days, he also stands 6 foot 6 and 260+ pounds. His ability on the field is limited by the style the Hawks play not because he is not a solid quality starter.

Interesting thing, the Hawks traded their 26th pick for the bronco's 31st ( Ifedi ) and a 3rd round ( Vannett ). The Bronco's picked Paxton Lynch with the 26th pick they got from the Hawks. All three of these guys are on the Hawks right now. lol.
