Jose Ramirez over JD Martinez? Is that soley because of Mookie?

Yep.

You really think any team deserves 2 of the 3 finalists? Being a primary DH didn't help him either.

DH didn't even think of that so screw you. lol

I think Melvin deserves the manager of the year slightly over Cash. Both were working with top 3 lowest payrolls in baseball and won at least 90 games. But Melvin took Oakland to the playoffs.

Martinez was a better hitter than Ramirez, but Ramirez still put up a 146 wRC+ while playing above average defense at 3rd base (while Martinez primarily DH'd/played corner OF). Ramirez was also one of the best baserunners while Martinez was... not good (Fangraphs' BsR rates Martinez at -4.1 runs while Ramirez was +12.0). Fangraphs WAR rates Ramirez as being worth 2 more wins than J.D. Mookie rates 2.4 wins above Jose and 0.6 above Trout.

Do it all the time
LOL. I invented the 'redseat' verb. One of my greater accomplishments in social media.
I did a little research on AL MVP and DHing. This is what I came up with. Since 1973 these players voted as the AL MVP had the most starts as a DH:
65, Don Baylor 1979
49, Jim Rice 1978
38, Juan Gonzalez 1998
32, Juan Gonzalez 1996
28, Joe Mauer 2009
24, Jason Giambi 2000
21, Thurmon Munson 1976

JD DHed in 93 games this past season. I'm not saying he can't or won't win the MVP, but history is against him.

I just don't see how you can vote for him when he probably wasn't even the best hitter on his own team (Mookie had a higher BA, OBP, SLG% and wRC+). And that's ignoring all the value Mookie provides over J.D. in the field/on the basepaths. Martinez had one of the best offensive seasons by a Sox player in my lifetime, but Mookie may have had the greatest season by a Red Sox player in my lifetime (and maybe one of the greatest ever period).

Ridiculous. Martinez is the first 2 win a SS at 2 positions, but he's not an MVP candidate?

And Markakis was 13th! among NL OF in OPS.

career achievement awards. nice season but at the end of the day, we're talking about a corner outfielder with a 117 OPS+

I am still not 100% positive Snell Deserves the CY...

I don't like that he averaged under 6 innings per game, did not reach 200 innings, and only had 19 QS

and compared to his 20 win companion Corey Kluber, who had well over 200 innings, averaged over 6 innings per start and had 25 QS...

I Think Kluber might deserve it MORE... Despite the BIG ERA difference...

I agree his inning totals seem pretty lackluster even by today's standards, but keep in mind there aren't many pitchers even averaging 6+ innings. Only 30 starting pitchers in 2018 averaged 6+ IP per start. Snell was 44th at 5.8 IP/S. There were also only 13 pitchers with 200+ innings (Snell was 30th).

Why keep that in mind when the other two best AL Pitchers are well over 200 innings and over 6 innings per game??
