So, Victor Martinez announced that he'll likely retire after the season.

Crazy to me that he's now played more for the Tigers more than he played for the Indians. He's one of my favorites. Class act and one hell of a hitter.

They had a little segment on him this morning on Quick Pitch. First, a trivia question; what active switch hitter has the most home runs, and I immediately thought V-Mart.

They went on to discuss May 11, 2016. In a game where Max Scherzer was absolutely dealing for the Nats, throwing a complete game with twenty Ks, Ian Kinsler, JD Martinez (pre-steroids), and Miguel Cabrera (fully-juiced) combined to go 1-12 with 9 Ks, V-Mart had 3 hits and no Ks. Baller.

Here's to you, Mr Martinez.

With all the arm injuries, it won't be too long before starting pitchers won't throw more than 140-150 innings a year - if that. Fifteen wins will be considered "awesome", but less important than WHIP/xFIP/K%. Closers might give way to 2-3 inning middle relief pitchers with 100mph fastballs. Five years from now....a Josh Hader could be your Cy Young winner. Some writers/stat-guys will just have to step up and break the "starting pitchers" are the only important pitchers theory.
Hader is a shoe in for the Al Campanis Award this year.

Did anyone ask if Leonys Martin fell in the Rouge River before he left Detroit? Or "dated" some women from Gibralter or Taylor?

Tigers have a real good shot at the fourth pick in 2019 draft. If things break well, the #3 pick isn't out of the question.

As crappy as I figured the Tigers would be (and that was before Miggy and Fulmer injuries), I never would have dreamed that the Orioles and Royals would challenge for the crappiest team in the last two decades. The Tigers never had a chance for the #1 pick in 2019 with those piles.....

They're the fifth or sixth best team in the AL at this point. We all know it.
