Waino's throwing session went well. He says he feels great, which is good news.

We should win the division and then it's all about how we look in October.

Interested to see if CMart grabs the last spot in the rotation.

CMart looked great today, if that's any indication of his season I love our rotation and if anyone goes down Marco looked excellent in every start this spring.

Home opener today! I love the atmosphere around the stadium every home opener, there is truly nothing like it in baseball. Although I might be biased with that statement, I feel like it is true. Overall I'd say that the first week was about as good as we could ask for, the cards have never been a quick starting team and the power showed up when we needed it to. The addition of Heyward has definitely ignited the basepaths and those 4 on opening night were beautiful.

Cards will have to work on that RISP. That has plagued them more than anything else these last few years.

Hopefully a win tonight before heading off to Colorado. Kershaw was Kershaw last night and he just flat out dealt. But Jaime looked good as well.

Any guesses on who we take in the first round tomorrow? I've heard Matuella out of Duke. Big, hard throwing righty.

The results of CMart and Garcia has been very inspiring. They just need to score some runs for Jaime.

As for the draft, don't follow college baseball, but if their decisions continue as in the past, it will be a college pitcher instead of high schooler. They have had such good results with the college guys and getting them ready for the majors quickly. Good luck to Mo and the other brainiacs in the organization.

These injuries are just getting out of hand at this point.

Hopefully Lyons makes a good start or two, whatever is needed, and Lynn is back before the All Star break. How soon before we see Piscotty? He's struggled a bit in AAA this season but he has to be a better hitting option than Bourjos is every night.

I'm a little bit annoyed that Lyons is our BEST option for a 'spot starter'....I mean, the guy is simply horrible. Clearly he's more valuable out of the pen, as I remember a few different times over the last 2 yrs where he has come in and virtually shut down the opposition for several innings. He just should not be starting in the majors, end of story. Is his era even under 5? Its difficult for me to believe he is our best option in AAA, and, if that IS in fact the case, its my feeling that the Cardinals need to seriously think about drafting more starting pitchers because wow.....I agree about Bourjos, except the fact that he might be the best defensive center fielder in all of baseball-seriously. If he could even hit .260 with an occasional extra base hit, that would be awesome. I do believe Piscotty will be up sometime this season, possibly when they expand the rosters. Heyward is most certainly heating up, Holliday will be back soon, and I would like to see Grichuk get some more playing time as he has legitimate power to all fields. Fingers crossed the Garcia is finally healthy and STAYS healthy, because when he is-he is a top of the rotation type of starter. Martinez looks like he has finally found his groove in a starters role, and he will only get better. This team has all the makings of a championship club....Rosenthal has been virtually unhittable all season long, and Seigrist seems to strike out the side almost every time he pitches. Walden will be back very soon and that will be a big boost to our pen. All in all, I'm loving what I'm seeing out of this team. Great hitting, awesome defense, unbelievable pitching(both rotation and pen). Just wish Oscar was still here to put his abilities on display. Go Cards!!!

A few notes on guys currently in the minors:

Marco: hurt

Alex Reyes: 20 years old in high-A ball, 60 IP with a 2.08 ERA and 90 Ks. He'll be a big league arm in the next year or two

Jack Flaherty: 19 years old in A ball. 1.88 ERA in 24 IP.

Rob Kaminsky (lefty): 20 years old in high-A ball. 2.42 ERA with 58 Ks in 67 IP.

All of these guys have the potential to be excellent pitchers in the majors but I'm most excited for Reyes and Kaminsky.

The Card's always seem to show up for the big games whether its key hits, great pitching, or big defensive plays. Everyone may not be hitting 300 but they all make timely contributions. As a fan of baseball you have to appreciate that.

Remove that nervous major league debut at Busch in April with his family in the stands, and Cooney has a 2.48 ERA in five starts, averaging 6 IP per start. The Cardinals keep churning out good pitchers.

The hitting is a lot better than I thought it would be at this point. If they can shore up the defense like they did today then there is some potential for a good run this year.

Wainwright is not right. Not sure what needs to be done, but he is way too hittable. Staked him a 4 run lead and he threw it away. Way too many meat pitches on 1st pitch from him and Manese.
