I heard they were actually looking at Sterling Castro. Elvis costs too much.

There lies the biggest obstacle of all, don't think anyone takes EA unless the Rangers eat a significant amount of the $ and they still wouldn't give much in return probably

Banister must like Magadan perhaps knowing him from NL East times. Dunno. But since MY is under contract and has close relationship with Elvis I'd make Young his 1:1 hitting coach for the next month. Then I give him the hitting coach job and let Magadan represent the team at mall openings.

Guys like Rua and Smolinski would benefit too. Both have plenty of pop but they become better OBP hitters if they can learn how to do that well first. Elvis is way past knowing how to do that ... but I agree Young's influence being gone for two seasons and batting 2nd with a crazy role that Wash wanted out of him has messed him up.

When you think about it ... Wash was trying to get more out of Elvis than he wanted out of Young or Kinsler.

As for 'busting it down the line' ... remember his knee injury from the beginning of camp may still be an issue. I think there is something physical going on. Remember the ball on the left side of 2nd last night that Odor made a play on? That was Elvis' ball but he was no where in a position to make it. There is something going on with Elvis physically.
I heard Elvis has a hamstring issue.

Wandy Rodriguez did very well last night. Gave up just a solo HR in 5 innings striking out 7 and 0 walks.

Watching last night was thinking that it would be great for MY to take Elvis on 1:1 to instruct him on how to put the ball on the RCF gap centerline +/- 5 feet like MY did for what is probably 2/3 of his hits.

Elvis would not listen

I was just thinking give MY one job for now, teach EA how to hit the ball the other way like he did so well. If he can get that done maybe you give him Mags job
Elvis wants to be something he is not. A leader. To be a leader you must learn to follow and IMO he would never follow MY because he already sees himself as a Beltre jr.

That's an interesting take. Hadn't thought about it, until you brought it up.

On Beltre retiring as a Ranger: Why wouldn't he retire as a Ranger?

He's played with 4 organizations, and with the exception of 2004 (Dodgers) he's had by far his most success; both from a team and personal perspective.

However, this doesn't mean we won't trade him this season. But again, I would strongly suspect he'll come back here, retire as a Ranger, and have that T on cap going into the Hall.

Agree. Can't imagine him not retiring here. He is not the type to turn his back on loyalty.

We both know he doesnt begin to compare to AB in the leadership department, you are correct. He has work to do with his game, its best to take advantage of guys like MY's and Pudge's availability when you can.

If the first 6 games are any indication of a trend, then we're scheduled to lose today.

Yeah, don't really know whch ball club is gonna show up.

True enough. But I was really referring to the fact we've gone L-W-L-W-L-W so far. And I'd be DELIGHTED if that maintained for the rest of the season.

Hopefully the Cobra will inspire them to play like actual professional ball players.

If this team goes 82-82 Banister better get a some sort of award.

I heard Elvis has a hamstring issue.
Then he needs to be resting but I don't believe it anyway. Maybe the knee still troubling tho.

Colby is the kind of veteran any staff needs. He's brutally honest with himself and gives his all every single time. I still remember the day he pitched with a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow. He gave 5 innings that day of 3 hit ball that day. Couldn't be more happy that the guy is back on the mound. To think all this guy has given and there are some fans that still give him shit is beyond me.

Some fans see baseball as hot dogs beer and a good time and nothing more. Ignore. We know better.
