so now that defending is no longer attainable, what do we want to see from the Giants this year? I think there are a few individual milestones that are at least somewhat attainable...

1) Bum wins 20. He currently sits at 17-7. With 25 to play, that gives him 5 more chances to get 3 wins. You gotta think the entire team wants him to get there, and Boch will manage those games like playoff games, with the exception of potentially going with Bum longer than what is good for the team in the event he needs to get to 5 or to get him the lead.

2) Duffy ROY. He looks like he is coming out of a semi-slump. In this "slump", he may have lost too much ground to Bryant who has really come on strong lately. The award is still attainable, though.

3) Posey gets the batting title. Posey currently has a .330 BA and Harper sits at .336 and Gordon is at .329. Posey is hot right now, and he has a title on his shelf already, so he knows how to do it.

Any others?

I like it cal. Didn't realize that Posey was so close to the batting title. All those infield singles really are coming in handy.

My goals aren't quite as exciting, but I'd like to see:

1) Its a longshot, but Clayton Blackburn called up and make a couple of starts. He came on strong at the end of the season and it would be nice to see what we have internally before making off season decisions. Yes, it would require a 60 day dl for someone but there are a few candidates out there (I'd say place Aoki on the 60 day, give him time to recuperate from his concussion. There's plenty of outfielders). And tzill will tell you, there's plenty of candidates to get their turn in the rotation bumped.

2) See how Brett Bochy performs. He didn't do too well in his late season appearances last year but, unlike last year, he had a better 2nd half than 1st half in triple A. See if he's a viable option for a bullpen spot in case someone goes down before 2016 opens. Otherwise, he's probably off the 40 man roster like he's been twice in the past year. How many times to you have to dfa the manager's son before he heads elsewhere? Say what you want about his talent, but he did post some decent numbers in the PCL.

3) Okay, I'll say it, I'm a sucker for the September call ups. For whatever reason, this time of the year has always been exciting to me, to see who would get called up. I think I've been that way since I first became a baseball fan in 1990 and learned of this annual rite of passage. So bring up Jarrett Parker and see what he does off the bench. Pitch more of Cody Hall and Mike Broadway. Let Jackson Williams catch a few days a week. Hey, even play some more of Nick Noonan and Kelby Tomlinson to give Crawford and Duffy some rest. I know some of these guys are filler (looking at you Williams, Bochy, Noonan and maybe Adrianza), but give them the thrill of playing some big league games before they go hunting for a new job this offseason.

Blackburn won the PCL ERA title. I agree that it makes sense to call him up and see what has to offer. But I doubt it happens. He is schedules for winter ball, and the Giants rarely, if ever, back out of those plans.

Brett and Leake have been friends since they were little (played on allstar teams or traveling teams together, something like that). I suspect Brett is basically an ambassador for the org at this moment and is here to put on the hard sell.

I'd like to see Posey or Craw reach a 100 RBI. Also, how crazy is it that a SS or a catcher could reach 100? It'll take some big games here, and frankly they both probably blew it this road trip with 2 offensive yards, but I'd like to see it.

I was 100% POSITIVE we were going to see Ray Black come September. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be in the case since he's going to the AFL, with Blackburn. So that probably knocks them both out.

I'd like to see what Stratton can do though.

The Sac underwent surgery today (wrist). 2 month recovery, should be ready to go in ST.

I will pray to Bonds that there is a speedy recovery. I have liked what I have seen so far from Susac since being called up. I don't have the hard-on for him that Tzill possesses, but I dig the kid and really hope we figure out what we are going to do with him and Posey. Can Susac play 1B and/or 3B?

My hopes, dreams, and expectations for the rest of the season.

1. MadBum win 20
2. Posey with batting title....again.
3. Duffy ROY
4. Crawford at 100 RBI
5. Young pitching call-ups getting some PT, starts (Blackburn, I'm looking at you!)
6. 4-game home sweep of the bitches from beneath us in the south at the end of season
7. <Noonan, >Adrianza
8. Mike Leake and Marlon Byrd agree to team friendly contract extensions before season's end
9. Pence comes back and swings the bat for at least a game or two so I can breathe again
10. Heston finishes the year strong, solidifying his spot in the 2016 rotation

Did he undergo surgery? I had heard he just needed to immobilize the wrist for a few months, but he would avoid the surgery.

:agree:

Also, Marlon Byrd needs 82 plate appearances in 22 games to have is option vested, so he is a pretty good shot to return regardless.

Yeah, I read that today too. Yesterday, it was reported as having surgery. Conflicting news.

Maybe another 2015 goal should be for Pence to just rest the remainder of the season. From ESPN:
News: Pence (oblique) may not return this season, MLB.com's Barry Bloom reports. "He's not able to do too much yet," manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday about Pence. "He's doing a lot of stretching and cardio, but he's not at a point where he can take some swings." (Thu Sep 10)

Spin: The Giants are 8.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West, so there is little reason to rush Pence back at well-below 100 percent health. A week ago Pence tried to take swings and he was still feeling his oblique so the team scaled back his activity. Pence was optimistic when asked if he could return this season, but he's running out of time and his optimism may fade once the Giants are mathematically eliminated from the playoff race.

Regarding Aoki (again from ESPN):
News: Aoki will see a concussion specialist in Pittsburgh at some point over the next few days, Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area reports. (Sun Sep 6)

Spin: Aoki has suffered multiple issues related to concussions this season, and most recently was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome. Despite the new development, manager Bruce Bochy remains hopeful that Aoki will be able to return to the San Francisco outfield this season. Until he sees the specialist, however, Aoki will likely be without a clear timetable.
