Not that it matters since it's a 162 game season but...

Has anyone noticed we haven't opened up the season at home since 2008? Seems a little unusual.

Again we open up in Cali with a 7 game road trip.

2014 @ LAA (3) / Oakland (4)
2013 @ Oakland
2012 @ Oakland
2011 @ Oakland
2010 @ Oakland
2009 @ Minnesota / Oakland
2008 vs. Texas (but only a 3 game homestand)

Because major league sports don't like having teams play in Alaska for big events like opening day in baseball or Superbowl for football, or anything for basketball and for most of the professional leagues they think Seattle is in or next to Alaska where you have to snow sleigh into them.

Opening on the road wouldn't be so bad if there was a little variety in the opponent. We haven't opened against a non-California team since 2009 when we opened in Minnesota and this is also the first time since 2009 that we haven't opened against Oakland on the road (even the games in Japan were designated road games). I saw a show a while back all about how the schedule is made (it used to be done by a married couple and is now done by a computer program). It mentioned how teams would request that they get home games on certain dates (like how the Red Sox always get a home game for Patriots' Day/Marathon Day) or away games on other dates (I think it mentioned that the Mariners like to be on the road during Seafair weekend just because of all the closures and traffic issues. I could be wrong about that.). It was an interesting show.

Didn't they decide to play most early April games in warm climates because of all the rain and snow outs a few years back? I know we can still close the roof, but it may explain the Cali part.
