Please submit a full ballot for who your top 5 for MVP in each league and your top 3 for Cy Young Award in each league would be in 2012. Only full ballots are going to be counted. I will leave the ballot open for at least 48 hours. If we haven't received 10 ballots in 48 hours I'll leave it open until we get to 10 ballots. The more the merrier of course. I'll create a new thread for each year as the previous year closes out, but continued debate once all ballots are cast is always welcome. Let the fun begin, I'll start:

AL MVP
1. Mike Trout (Angels)
2. Miguel Cabrera (Tigers)
3. Robinson Cano (Yankees)
4. Adrian Beltre (Rangers)
5. Justin Verlander (Tigers)

AL Cy Young
1. Justin Verlander (Tigers)
2. David Price (Rays)
3. Matt Harrison (Rangers)

NL MVP
1. Buster Posey (Giants)
2. Ryan Braun (Brewers)
3. Andrew McCutchen (Pirates)
4. Yadier Molina (Cardinals)
5. David Wright (Mets)

NL Cy Young
1. Clayton Kershaw (Dodgers)
2. R.A. Dickey (Mets)
3. Johnny Cueto (Reds)

Hey you know I'd love to research who was the 10th most valuable player in the NL in 1952 just like you would, unfortunately I think we're in the minority on that one.

I had a tough time with the AL Cy...I knew 1-2 would easily be Verlander and Price, but I felt it could go either way. I know Verlander had the better ERA+, WHIP and more innings, but Price pitching in a much tougher offensive division puts him ever so slightly over.

5. Encarnacion

I don't believe a pitcher should win the MVP unless it is a once in a generation type of season.

Trout was the best PLAYER in the league. Miggy was clearly the best hitter. Trout's defense and the problems he could cause when on the bases goes overlooked. He affects the pitcher, the catcher, and the infield and outfield defense when he is on base. Once you are inside the head of a pitcher, you have won half the battle as he is less focused on the hitter at the plate. The catcher is also thinking about a quick release and may not be able to "freeze" a pitch that could have been called a strike. If the middle infielders cheat just a little toward the middle, a hit could go through the vacated area. Same thing with OF's. They may take a step in to try to cut him down on a single, but it could cause a ball to be hit over their head. Oh...and he's a good hitter and defender too.

If I am starting a team with a player/hitter, I want Trout.

NL MVP
1. Posey
2. McCutchen
3. Braun (based on what I know now, he wouldn't be in there)
4. Yadier Molina
5. David Wright

What Posey did at the most demanding position on the field is truly great.

NL Cy
1. Kershaw
2. Gio Gonzalez
3. Cueto
4. Cain
5. Dickey

I am also not a fan or relievers getting this award. What Kimbrel and Chapman did was great, but for only 60 innings or so. A starter has to pace himself and can't come in gunning it at 98-100 mph every pitch.

I think Kershaw is the best in the biz, and I would give it to him again in 2013. I thought Dickey had a career season and expected his rapid decline in the AL. He was a feel good story last season and he got the voter sentimentality.

AL Cy
1. Price
2. Verlander
3. Weaver

I thought Price was a good choice. He didn't have Verlander's innings, but he pitched in the AL East. Not taking anyhting away from Verlander, but the Tigers pretty much beat up on that weak ass division for the last 2 months of the season.

Today was actually the first time I almost put Miggy over Trout. IP and games played carry so much weight with me, and that 139 GP to 161 just keeps slapping me in the face today. Majority of the time "Most Valuable Player" to me means the best player in the league, cause obviously the best player in the league is going to bring the most value. But in certain situations like this, I think the Tigers getting 22 more games from the best hitter in baseball was a lot more valuable. Damn it!!!!

In 2012 I would take king Felix over Harrison without a question. Don't be a homer lol

Submit your vote please, I'd like to see who you put. And I don't know whether or not the poster is a homer but many others have chosen Harrison over Felix for last year as well and I don't think they are all Rangers fans voting.

And you are more than welcome to participate, one of the things this is meant to do is create some good discussion.

Hernandez: 4.68 WAR, 3.06 ERA, 123 ERA+, 1.14 WHIP, 232 IP, 223 K (8.7 K/9), 56 BB (2.2 BB/9), 3.98 K/BB, 14 HR allowed (0.5 HR/9), 209 hits allowed (8.1 H/9), 5 CG (all shutouts) in 33 starts

Harrison: 6.1 WAR, 3.29 ERA, 134 ERA+, 1.26 WHIP, 213.1 IP, 133 K (5.9 K/9), 59 BB (2.5 BB/9), 2.25 K/BB, 22 HR allowed (0.9 HR/9), 210 hits allowed (8.9 H/9), 4 CG (2 shutouts) in 32 starts

I'd give Hernandez the slight edge because of innings and strikeouts, but it's very close imo. It's not asinine to suggest Harrison was better. Harrison had a very good year (even if there was some "luck" involved).
