This would have been another interesting matchup. Almost certainly would have gone seven, but you be the judge.
No one was beating Dirk that year.
I would not that far.
Dallas played great and earned their ring.
But, their championship was enabled by Miami playing far below their potential.
Dallas was in the right place at the right time to capitalize.
I think most of the Finals teams from the past decade beat the '11 Mavericks.
Agree. That was the first year of the Heat's big 3 and they were literally taking turns. Especially Lebron and D-Wade.
Dirk played through the flu to stomp a hole in those three asses, who were too busy making fun of Dirk to actually go out and stop him. Like I said, he was a man on a mission and no one was going to stop him that year.
No doubt there was no chemistry for the big 3 yet. But all the pieces for Dallas were there, were playing solid team ball, and they had both prolific scoring and lock down defense. Even if the big 3 had been playing as a team, there wasn't enough depth on that roster to contend with Dallas that year. Dallas was a legit team from top to bottom, and yes they got hot at the right time. I'm not homer enough to think it was one of the greatest teams of all time, but the end of the regular season and all through the playoffs they were a machine and it was led by the attitude of Dirk. After Dallas finally got past San Antonio the entire team was celebrating. Dirk waved to the crowd and went to the locker room. They hadn't won anything yet and that was the right attitude. The entire team rallied around that and kept working at it. Heat expected to just roll in and win because they had Lebron.I was definitely pulling for the Mavs that season and Dirk was amazing.
But, on pure talent, the Heat were much better.
The Mavs won because they played as a team and were better collectively than the Heat who were playing like individuals.
I'd wager that if the Mavs had played the Heat in the 2nd or 3rd year of the Big 3, the outcome would have been different.
