Interestingly enough...the Bengals can still get the #2 seed even if they and the Broncos finish at 12-4.

But it all depends on the Colts and Titans game and Tampa Bay at Carolina?

I've gone through almost every scenario I could tinker with and those outcomes are the only ones that changes the Bengals from the #2 to #3. To summarize:

- If the Bengals and Broncos both win and finish 12-4
- Colts beat Titans
- Panthers beat Buccaneers

Bengals are #2 seed.

Oh...and New Orleans has to beat Atlanta as well.

And...San Francisco has to beat the Rams.

Still doable but getting more absurd. And yes, they controlled their fate but didn't get it done last night. I'm aware. Just thought it was interesting that it is still in play even if we (Bengals and Broncos) finish at 12-4.

That's all.

There was NO WAY Denver was not getting that bye. The league wants a healthy Manning. #18 in his 18th season. Now, a story comes out he used PED's. Oh, the juicy storylines.....but, there's a comeback from injury. A great game is played. Redemption! Peyton wins! Peyton wins! And he rides off into the sunset. Wow! What a script.

If Peyton is healthy enough to play the Broncos will win the Super Bowl.

Sorry, but that can't be right. If Cinci and Denver are both 12-4. The first tiebreaker, is head-to-head. It wouldn't get to any common opponent, strength of victory scenario.

It has to be a glitch. They lost head-to-head. Look at the NFL tie breaking scenarios. There is no way around that, if you two are in a two way head-to-head tie for playoff positioning.

That's what I thought too...ESPN's algorithm must be out of whack in that respect.

NFL Tie-Breaking Procedures

Ran it with Yahoo's simulator and it has the Broncos as #2 if both teams finish 12-4.

Doesn't matter, we beat the Ravens at home, and Denver loses to SD in the last week as they can breathe now that they are guaranteed a playoff spot. Before Monday night, they were starting to stress. They were desperate, we were not. Rivers has played Denver alot, he has been really good this year and they are in SD and they have been much worse on the road this year.

I am still holding out with my GLIMMER of hope. I know, I know..I am out of my mind and no way all that happens, but I need something to root for.

I am rooting for the Jets vs. the Bills. (Just so I do not have to root for the Browns to beat the Steelers)

I am rooting for the Chargers vs. the Broncos.

I am rooting for the Bengals vs the Ravens (of course)

Those are the only 3 games I care about this weekend.

That is not correct. The Bengals can LOSE this weekend to Baltimore and still get a BYE.

If Cincinnati loses to Baltimore, and Denver loses to SD, and KC beats the Raiders, the Chiefs will win the division, and Cincinnati will have the head to head tiebreaker versus KC giving them a first round BYE.

However, if both Cincinnati and Denver win, there is no chance Cincinnati can attain the BYE.

Never mind, I thought it was in SD and not Denver!! haha

Denver is a hard place to win in, even for Rivers.

I know you already corrected that the Broncos are actually at home but just a quick update. The Broncos actually have a better record on the road than they do at home. They are 6-2 on the road and 5-2 at home this year. Heck just to give you a glimmer of hope the Broncos are 3-0 in the division on the road and 0-2 at home against the division.

And it is Rivers, so you never know..... I would hate playing in the same division as that guy. He plays some of his best games when you least expect it.

All that said, I think the Broncos win fairly easy..... SD had their last big game when they closed out their building against Miami. Likely the last game in SD, and they were very focused. I imagine most of them are occupied with other thoughts right now and I can't see them being super motivated.

The Bengals should just play their game like a preseason game. I fully expect the Chiefs to win their game on Sunday and in that case, it won't matter what the Bengals do anyway. If a miracle happens and the Broncos lose, the Chiefs will give us our bye.

Yeah I agree you never know with Rivers. He seems to show up in the big games. AT the same time San Diego has been putting a lot of players on IR pretty much showing they have shut it down for the year. I mean in the last 10 days alone they have released or IR'd 6 players. Some of them being significant names like Eric Weddle, Sean Lissemore, and Melvin Gordon.

I am honestly nervous still for the game. The Chargers played the Thursday night game so they have had 10 days to prepare and be well rested where Broncos of course played Monday night in a very hard fought emotionally draining game. It would not surprise me to see San Diego come out and beat us. So there is still hope for you guys getting that #2 seed.

Yes... I realize that, except I am pretty sure the OP is talking about a situation where both of them winning is the case.

we're not getting a bye, it would deviate from our one and done script.

Why does the media keep saying the Ravens have been playing very well..... They beat the Browns on a freak play, lost at Miami, got hammered by Seattle and KC and then beat a flat Pittsburgh team. What am I missing?

the experts were predicting that either the Ravens or Steelers would win this division before the season started, and that we would be in third place. There was no reason to put the RAvens in the conversation, but they will continue to believe that the Ravens are better next season as well. A Ravens win Sunday would give those 'experts' the proof they need. The Bengals falling flat Sunday would be a great lead into their one and done.
