1994 Palouse Posse. Scored more points than the offense. Had Ryan Leaf not redshirted the 1994 Cougs win the national championship.

I respect Alabama as the truest of True Bloods (AL, OK, USC, ND), and thought Notre Dame was still the best program of all time up until a year or two ago.

These Nick Saban teams are some of the all time greats, admittedly, but for the most part, I STRONGLY contend that Nick Saban has what Nebraska had for decades.... that FEAR of Alabama to where the game was won before the first snap of the ball.

I also contend that while Saban might.......... MIGHT........ be the GOAT Head Coach, he never had the coaching competition that the other All-Time Greats had. How many active HC's have National Championships?

Urban?- 3, but he's gone now
Dabo?- 2, and SUPERB job this year, but still......
Jimbo?- 1, and that's damn near forgotten outside of Tallahassee, and without Jameis....

Name me another active Head Coach with a National Championship.......... besides "newly minted" Mack Brown at North Carolina who doesn't have a chance of winning one anyway...........

Call it Saban-hate if you want to, but it's not. This just ELEVATES how impressive that 1992 Alabama team (Defense) was..... one last example......

How many non-Alabama fans can name Alabama's 1992 Head Coach, without looking it up?
Clemson fans should be able to name the HC. He is all their coach talks about.

..... was better than ANY that YOUR school has ever had. Feel free to prove me wrong. I won't be shocked if this thread gets no responses. :pound:

Meh...different era. The '92 Tide team was heavy on Seniors, all those guys would have left already in the draft in the current era. There were only 3 1st rounders taken in the 1993 draft, Curry, Copeland and Teague, all Seniors and only Langham in the following year.

I would argue that Saban has had several teams with better defenses...despite having limited seniors. Imagine this year's team with Minkah Fitzpatrick, Daron Payne, Ronnie Harrison, Da'Shawn Hand, Rashaan Evans, Anthony Averett and Shawn Dion Hamilton as Seniors. There would be 1st rounders in scrub roles.

Umm.... Oklahoma State fan ? :ohwell:

Oh damn, I'm sorry for you lot in life. Our Good Lord BLESSED you to be an Oklahoma State Cowboys fan. I truly am sorry about that. Speaking of "used to" do you have any recollection that one Jimmie Johnson (of Miami and Dallas Cowboys fame) was your Head Coach at one time?

I apologize that you couldn't get within a SNIFF of beating Nebraska when you had, back to back, your best players in the History of your program, Mr. Thomas and Mr. Sanders.

I'm also sorry that, on Nebraska's way OUT of the Big XII, the Conference Mandated REFS couldn't see their way to giving you a farewell victory against us, like they did Texas A&M. They figured TAMU would STAY and they could make MONEY off of them, that's why the last Nebraska/ TAMU game ended with a 9-6 score, with Nebraska getting FIFTEEN penalties (NINE Personal fouls) while TAMU gone ONE penalty the whole game. THEN, TAMU left for the SEC anyway. :pound:

I'm sorry that Oklahoma State was not seen as PROFITABLE as your Big Brother, but.........

We've played 43 games and you've won FIVE. Why am I addressing an unwashed-masses poster like yourself, over here?

Yeah, you can talk trash and I agree 40 years ago you guys really beat the shit out of us.

But, partial qualifiers are gone, you have no local recruiting base, and everyone is on tv now.

At one time schools like Minnesota and Army were elite blue bloods. They aren't and ya'll aren't now. Welcome to the new normal.

1956 Oklahoma
6 Shut Outs
Only 51 pts allowed all year.
Had to play both ways.

I'll toss them in the ring.
That 56 Oklahoma team was one of the best I have ever seen.

After another undefeated season, Oklahoma was first in both final polls in early December.Their winning streak was up to forty games, but they did not play in a bowl game due to the Big Seven's no-repeat rule; runner-up Colorado was invited to and won the Orange Bowl.

Some of the best I’ve seen:

79 Bama
86 PSU
86 OU
88 AU
92 Bama
94 WSU
95 NU
01 Miami
02 tOSU
08 USC
11 Bama

Obviously there were many in the old era. 01 Michigan outscored its goes 550-0. (The 02-03 Wolverines outscored theirs 644-12 and 565-6.). General Neyland had some salty units at UT. Wilkinson has the 47-game win streak, which doesn’t happen without seriously good D.

1985 Michigan vs. 1985 LSU would have been a 3-2 game. Two fantastic defenses. Michigan had a better offense, so I think they would have gotten into FG range for the winner.

Iowa/Michigan that year was a classic. 12-10 Iowa on 4 Houghtlin FGs.

2002 Ohio State.

Played 3 top 10 teams - held #10 Washington State to 7 points, #9 michigan to 9 points, and if not for incompetent refs and no replay, would've held #2 Miami to 14. Only team to hit 20 on them in regulation was Texas Tech, who scored 14 points in the 4th (final TD was with 20 seconds left) after we were already up 31 and had 3rd stringers in.

02 tOSU is there with 86 PSU and 92 Bama on my list of the most underrated teams ever. Those defenses kept them in every game. When people bring up the PI in OT against Miami, I counter with the play you mention. That game NEVER should’ve been in OT in the first place.

The thing with the OT PI call that made it so bad was the delay in throwing the flag. Depending on the angle you looked at it, it could've been a no-call, could've been PI, but Miami was already coming onto the field so it made it even worse.

But you're right, game never should've been in OT. The 3rd down play they messed up was not only a first down catch that would've been easily reversed with instant replay, but there was also a ridiculously bad holding call on their DB against our WR that would've given us a first down had the ball not even been caught in the first place. Moot point, as OSU won, but all in all that was an amazing game.
