The new ranking system is getting more data but even with different results it's looking pretty interesting . A full 50% of the top 30 plays in 2 leagues . Is this a sign of a system defect or just an indicator of how good these 2 leagues are this year ?

I think the ACC and Big 10 are just that much better than the other conferences this year. At least the top of of their conferences are. The Big 12 has 2 really good teams and 3 more decent teams in my opinion. The Pac 12 SUCKS. Big East doesn't have the top end power they've had in the past. Villanova is still a really good team but not the team of old. Xavier and Butler are down for their standards although St. Johns and Marquette seem to have taken their places. SEC has a title contender in Tennessee, and 2 really good teams in Kentucky and Auburn. The rest of the conference is okay at best.

We're going to have a lot of mediocre teams in the tournament this season. Beyond the top 15-20 or so teams, there's not much depth in college basketball this year. That being said, I think any of those 15-20 can get hot and win it all.

There is a lot of quality at the top of the ACC and the Big10 has a shit ton of really solid teams.

Both leagues do have a few complete train wrecks as well tho.

With the Pac12 and AAC being brutal it’s not surprising at all.

Then you got the Big12 and BE who both have quality depth with no real punching bags, but both have a massive drop off at the top from what they usually have.

ACC should expect nothing less than being one of the best 2 or 3 conferences every year. They stole arguably the 2 best programs from the Big East and have 29 teams. So there's that.

Big 10 started off hot but has cooled down a bit.

SEC is strong this year. If UK picks it up, they could have the best March, overall.

It's a defect. Just like the missing link.

The B1G is positioned better than any other conference out there, up and down from top to bottom, with only the ACC coming close to comparing.

If you look at the rankings of 1-14-19

B1G = 10 tms in the Top 45 - 3 tms in Top 10/6 tms in Top 20

ACC = 8 teams in the Top 49 - 3 tms in Top 8/6 tms in Top 21

SEC = 7 teams in the Top 42 - 3 tm in the Top 4/3 tms in Top 18

B12 = 6 teams in the Top 46 - 1 tm in the Top 5/3 tms in the Top 15

BE = 5 teams in the Top 50

Pac10 = 1 team in the Top 38 - 2 in the Top 51

And on the bottom,

B1G = 0 tms outside of the Top 125
SEC = 1 tm outside of the Top 130
ACC = 2 tms outside of the Top 135

So what all of that points to is that the B1G teams will gain the most from winning games and will lose the least from losing games.

Now granted, Illinois and Rutgers could pull off some upsets, and marginal teams like Minnesota and Ohio St could lose to PSU or NW and could fall out of the Top 45-50 while other conferences might not suffer losses to their worst rated teams, etc., but my point is that AT THIS MOMENT, the B1G is in the drivers seat, and not just in total teams in the tourney, but right now they would get a 1 seed, a 2 seed, a 3 seed and possibly 6 Top 5 seeds and possibly will have 8 teams with a favorable seed in the 1st round.

Now the only thing to figure out is how these favorable ratings affect the top 9-11 teams in the B1G and ACC leading up to Selection Sunday.
