Not bad for a hockey game/party. Wish we could've gone but alas babysitting tonight. Lots of kids/friends went. Blue looks good this year

Thanks to Rich Rod, that record is likely to stay intact for awhile.

I think Eddie Shack went to see the game. Maybe he'll have some stories to share.

Actually, I went to see my daughter's dance recital, ate a massive wet burrito at the Beltline Bar, came home and fell asleep halfway through the second period (I DVR'ed the game). Luckily due to the burrito's attempted escape, I recently woke up and I'm now ready to continue watching the game.

Wow, it would've been amazing to be there. Did it come on tv? I wanted to watch it but didn't see it.

Good man.

BTW...what the fuck is it with dance teachers scheduling recitals during big hockey games? My sister had a dance recital back in '97 during the 4th and last game against the Flyers in the Finals. I can still remember during the intermission me and my dad hanging around some guy outside who was listening in on the game on a radio. Watched the end of the game on a TV in a local bar.

You know I don't really care for the outdoor games in principle, I think they are kind of gimmicky, but I was really excited for the Chicago-Detroit Winter Classic, and I was even more excited for The Big Chill.

The game didn't really live up to the billing, I thought it would be closer than 5-0... it was still quite a spectacle. Does this mean we can call ourselves HockeyTown again, without any snide comments from the peanut gallery? Or do the empty lower bowl white collar Blackberry seats cancel this out? :-)

I'm hoping this game was the kind of kickstart the Wolverines seemed to need... the PP was clicking, and even when it wasn't scoring it looked very good. Hunwick was a rebound factory, but the defense covered for him perfectly. Sparty has some small forwards, so I don't know how they will handle some of the bigger teams out there but hopefully the injury to Hogan isn't serious.

MSU has some players I really love to watch, I'm rooting for Krug in a Rudy sort of way... it's nearly impossible for a 5'9 stay at home crash and bang blueliner to make it in the NHL but I'd love for him to get a chance, even for one game. I have a feeling he's going to have a Travis Richards type career for an AHL team.

Trevor Nill looks like he's got some of that Abdelkader mojo, he hits anything he sees and his legs never stop churning. I don't know what kind of a pro career he's going to have, but maybe he knows someone in an NHL organization who could help him get his foot in the door... hint hint.

It's amazing how much the Chelios brothers look like their dad. Maybe it's because their dad seems to have the fountain of youth stashed somewhere in his house (or is it in a bottle of Wild Turkey?). They also have a bit of a sneaky nasty streak... old man Chris taught his boys well.

Overall the Spartans work hard, don't give up, and play a very aggressive game with lots of hitting... they just don't have the size or top end skill to compete right now. Hopefully they can recruit well over the next few years and get back into championship contention. I don't want 5-0 blowouts any more than Sparty fans do.

Michigan just flat out came together. Jon Merrill was huge, Hunwick was pure positional perfection (holy fucking rebounds though Batman!), Rust actually showed confidence and poise, Hagelin was a beast, it was beautiful.

I don't think Merrill is going to be an NHL stud, but he does seem like a big game player a la Darren McCarty (or Big Game Chris!). Hagelin will need some time in the A but he has a lot of potential and skill for the Rangers to destroy, so he's got that going for him.

Rust I think is going to keep getting better as the season goes on... seeing him pick up his play really gives me optimism for the season and the Frozen Four.

All in all, the game wasn't what it could have been, but I'm glad to have been able to watch. Those Michigan Hockey chants were awesome in 75,000 person unison. Fuck that embarrassing Ann Arbor.com "Big Chill Guide" article. There were 100,000 die hard hockey fans in that stadium, and the other 13,411 were converted by the first period.

Good game, Sparty... see you next time.
