1-15 teams (or worse) shouldn't get rewarded with 1st overall picks.

And I'd add in 2-14 teams, too.

Absolute dogshit teams shouldn't get to pick and ruin blue-chip quarterbacks when they don't have the team backbone to protect and nurture them. And they shouldn't be given incentives to tank.

Teams that go 1-15 or worse should be required to pick no better than top 20 in the 1st round, And teams that go 2-14 shouldn't get to pick any higher than 15. Then they are more likely to pick up OL or DL to help build a good foundation. They shouldn't be taking Burrow and others like him to throw in the fire and ruin with a tissue paper line.

Prove you can actually win a game with the guys you have before you can pull an elite QB off the board.

IMO.

1-15/2-14 happens pretty rarely. Worst team should get the best pick. Period. NBA needs to get rid of their lottery while we're on the subject of the worst teams getting the top pick.

before you can pull an elite QB off the board.

Being the best prospect doesn't make you elite. Any player that hasn't played a professional down should be called elite.

Was JaMarcus Russell elite? Was Sam Bradford? David Carr? Is Matt Stafford? Baker Mayfield? Jared Goff? Just going #1 overall doesn't make a guy elite.

The draft is for helping parity with the NFL teams. Not catering to a college players likes & dislikes.

You act like the Jets would gain some sort advantage from it. No, they'll fuck that up too.

Look, for years, the Jets have had good draft picks and have wasted them.

This year, when there is actually a legit franchise QB to be picked, you don't want them to get it because they suck?

Eh, I'd only really frown on teams like the Browns where their pick was damn near married to a top 3 pick for a while. Some team just being SOL going 1-15 or 0-16 by itself is fine.

It's probably better to keep the draft system simple, to prevent teams from having too many opportunities to game it. After all, what's to prevent a team that's going nowhere from tanking just enough games to go 3-13? That would potentially give them that first pick because you took it away from the 1-15 team and the 2-14 team.

The League has already messed with the draft by offering extra picks to teams that hire minorities to coaching positions. Affirmative action by another name. What's next? Are they going to take picks away from teams that remove favored ethnicities because they don't do the job?

I’d have a different view. A 1-15 team would get the first 3 picks. One would have to be used for a defensive lineman. One an offensive lineman. Then the 3rd could be a skilled position, QB, RB, etc.

Yel there shouldn’t be a very little chance a borderline lottery team should get the 1st overall pick. If you are the worst it only makes sense you should get the “best player” but like you said, it isn’t always set in stone just depends on the year. Most of the time a team won’t get a Luck or Garrett

Yeah and they got two #1’s within a couple years, which is pretty rare but most of the time you aren’t going to get a top 5 pick right so if they did a NBA lottery type not only do you have a risk of not getting a top 3 pick but also the every year risk of picking the wrong guy (especially with a bad front office). Doesn’t seem righf for a team that is so bad...yes that means about the organization but it just gives them incentive they need to make more changes. I like the NBA lottery bc it makes it interesting but imo it just isn’t fair

Drafting #1,2 or 3 don't mean shit if the FO is inept and ownership is useless. No change to the system will ever change that and trying to "fix" it would only reward some other inept franchise. the NBA and NHL have a lottery system and it's horrible. A 5th worst team should never, ever get the top pick, imo.

Teams tank in the NBA, cuz it's easy to do.

Nobody tanks in the NFL.

I'd rather see a push to retract teams, like say, idk, the Lions. Than not give the worst team the first pick.

Eli is the only #1 overall pick, this Millenium, at QB to win a SB.

Only other 21st Century #1 overall to win a SB is Eric Fisher.

Which leads us to a disturbing fact:
Eli Manning was the best use of a #1 draft pick the last two decades.

You don't have to like it, but don't bother denying it.
