No one needs a history lesson on the A's. They've lost to other teams in the Beane era as well. They wanted studs for their starting rotation. They had decent ones, but they wanted lock down pitchers to win series. They might not even be facing the Tigers in this post-season.
A's don't need bullpen help. Their bullpen is stout. They also get to move Chavez to the bullpen with this move.
I think you're overvaluing Cespedes and undervaluing Lester and Gomes. I don't think they made this trade because of Detroit. They made this trade because they're tired of not...
Are we? Have you looked at his stats? His actual offensive production? It's not that amazing. He's not even a top 5 run producer on this club. Why do people act like his presence is irreplaceable?
I loved me some Cespedes, but let's not act like he was this batch's Giambi.
What makes you think he's going back to Boston? Because the Boston homer media thinks so? If he was coming back, he wouldn't have been traded and they would've made him a quality offer. Willingness to come back and actually signing again are two different things. I think he ends up with a...
Cool. That's good for them. He is a 0.250 hitter with 0 homeruns @ Fenway. Smaller sample size sure... but not sure why you think he's suddenly going to be an MVP caliber player by moving from one ballpark to another. He has power sure... but he definitely has some terrible plate discipline...
Their rotation is strong, but why not make it stronger? I can't imagine how I'd feel if the Tigers got Price and the A's didn't get Lester. The move made sense as Cespedes's production is vastly overrated by the mass media.
Hammel wasn't worth a thing right now with his 4 straight terrible...
Then you don't understand baseball or you never watch A's games. Cespedes isn't the stud you paint him to be. And it's a 2 month + post-season rental of Lester/Gomes for an 8 month rental in Cespedes.
Are you going to continue to spout nonsense?
Both teams are very good. Both have very good starting rotations. I'd argue the A's have the better bullpen (slightly)... it's really a toss up. Tigers have to worry about winning their division at this point. They're clearly the best team in...
