OMFG. After years of multiple people trying to help you understand the fallacy of plus/minus, you’re still quoting it as a meaningful stat. Jesus Christ. Good to see nothing has changed with you, Larry and Curly.
Farabee plays hard every shift and leaves it all on the ice even when he’s not paying well overall, unlike pusses like Giroux and Konecny. By the way, where have all the Konecny pole smokers been? Hiding along with Konecny since the start of the 19-20 playoffs???
Agreed.
Assuming Hamilton is a pipe dream and the Flyers are forced to find a fix in the lower tiers of free agency, I’d like to see them go after Brandon Montour as a potential partner for Provy and Jamie Oleksiak to bring toughness and solid D. Move one of Hagg or Braun, with the other...
I’m leaning towards the ideal scenario being Seattle taking Jake, even if the Flyers need to include an asset (within limits). This team has too many pass-first players up front, which is a big part of the reason why the chemistry isn’t working and the whole is less than the sum of the parts.
Some random thoughts on a snowy SB Sunday:
1) Hägg sucks
2) Not surprisingly but Patrick and Lindblom are struggling to get their games back.
3) Hart has not played well overall, and no it’s not just the D. No reason for concern yet, though.
4) Couturier is the best player on the team and...
I can see this trade happening if the Flyers retain $2 mil/yr of salary. Columbus doesn't look like they have a bad multi-year contract they need to shed in the deal, and I doubt given the current economic climate they're looking to take on too much in the way of additional salary.
I was coming at it from the perspective of persistent rumors that Florida still needs to move out more long-term salary like they did with Matheson as well as Ekblad's concussion history, along with their rumored interest in Ghost. But yes, I agree the Flyers would likely need to add a high...
I'm going to throw out a just for fun trade, but one that makes some sense to me based on some unsubstantiated rumors. Most on the board will love it:
To Florida: JVR, Ghost
To Flyers: Ekblad, Connolly
Financially, it's $500k less cap hit for the Flyers in the next 3 years but more...
Vatanen got hurt getting in the cab on the way to the airport after the trade to Carolina (sarcasm). Pass for me. Good player who seems to be made of glass.
This might provide a little more clarity on the Gustafsson signing:
Being friends with fellow Swedish defenseman Robert Hagg of the Flyers should help Gustafsson with the transition to a new team.
In fact, the two are currently practicing together back home in their native country. Gustafsson...
Hmmmm....I have to admit I've never heard that outside of NMCs and really don't believe it's the case. If it is I agree with you, but I'm pretty sure it's not. I can't find anything that talks about NTCs, just NMCs.
Flyers should absolutely be in on Nate Schmidt if Vegas is going to sign Pietrangelo. Schmidt is LH but can play both sides. Rumors that he’s being traded to Florida, but at least one source says NOT Florida. Anyway, if it IS Florida Chuck should be calling about their RFA RHD MacKenzie...
Hoping for Alex Cotton in Rnd 2, a high-upside RHD with decent size, 6'2" 183lbs.
"Second year eligible late bloomer who has grown his game in the last year by leaps and bounds, and has to be considered as one of the top 12-14 defenseman in this class at this time. Displays strong puck skills...
Sounds like Foerster can eventually fill the Hartnell/Schenn one-timer spot on the PP at the very least, something they haven't had the past few seasons.
Yeah, I was originally thinking that the Flyers would prefer a couple of veterans as the 13th/14th forwards and 7th/(and maybe 8th) dman rather than stifle development of younger players, but if there's no AHL season I think they will have to rotate the best of these guys in and out of the...
Just my 2 cents....but Zamula isn't ready for the NHL, he'll almost certainly start the season in the AHL. Although, with no AHL season he could stick as the 6th/7th/8th d-man, rotating in and out. And, unless Myers is ready to take on 1st pairing duties which I don't think he is yet, they've...
Here's a list of RH d-men on contracts expiring at the end of 2021 who may or may not be available (I admit I breezed through pretty quickly):
Erik Gudbranson (Ana) $4 mil.
Jason Demers (Ari) $3.94 mil.
David Savard (Clm) $4.25 mil.
Adam Larsson (Edm) $4.17 mil.
Stephen Johns (Dal) $2.35 mil...
True, but Pietrangelo might be the only FA I'd be willing to lose Sanheim for, although I'd dread the last few years of Pietrangelo's contract. I'm also wondering if there is a player on an expiring contract that a cap (or cash) strapped team may be open to moving? Just a thought.
The problem with getting another top 4 d-man is that then you’re all but guaranteed to lose a very good player in the expansion draft next year. Niskanen was perfect because he only had one year left on his deal. Provorov-Sanheim-Myers-????? Can only protect 3.
