No where on the Rams roster are more spots available to be won than on the special teams unit. Overseeing the make-over is new coordinator John Bonamego, a veteran of many seasons and teams at the position. His challenge is to restore the luster and excellence the Rams have displayed on this...
I love the fact McVay took action after missing the playoffs last season. As we all know, not to point to one play, but if Greg Z. hits the last second field goal against Seattle, the Rams would have been playoff bound.
Step one - Three new coordinators - all with an outgoing, get after them...
Hated missing out on the draft thread due to my old computer crashing so a couple of post draft comments after getting a new computer:
1) Two days before the draft, McVay let it out that the Rams would be looking for "playmakers". McVay doesn't have it in him to smokescreen (lie). So the...
Vita - Matt Longacre had a tryout with the Ravens this past week.
I'm glad Hager is back to provide depth at inside linebacker and to help as usual on special teams.
Looks like all eight draft picks will make the final 53 man roster. Rapp will replace Countess. Henderson will replace Justin Davis. Long will replace Sam Shields. Bobby Evans will replace Saffold. Gaines will replace Suh. Edwards will replace Sullivan. Dakota Allen will replace Hager...
My thoughts and observations on the first three rounds:
1) As it turned out, the Rams believed in their OL and DL players, so they passed on those positions and took the value, (as SJ predicted many posts ago), on the depth in the secondary in this draft class. Also, I remember a few drafts...
The Les Snead/Thomas Dimitroff connection is alive and well. Great to have found that trade partner to move down and get a 2nd and 3rd round pick. If I'm recalling correctly, we moved down with the Falcons some drafts ago and took Alec Ogletree.
I'm sticking with the beef for our second round...
My first mock is based on BPA and position need. My first round pick is soley based on a position where the player can start in year one!
1.31 DL Jerry Tillery Notre Dame
3.94 OL Tytus Howard Alabama State
3.99 LB Tre Lamar Clemson
4.133 LB Drue Tranquill...
Mannion is off the roster as a free agent who wasn't tendered.
Great one year move by Snead and McVay.
Saves us from spending a draft pick on a backup QB this year!
Beckham reunites with Jarvis Landry, his LSU teammate. Great deal for Browns who gave up this year's first and third draft picks and safety Jabril Peppers, a former first round pick.
It's now official as Battlelyon stated under the Current News & Events thread:
Rams receive the 98th and 99th picks in the third round for Sammy Watkins and Trumaine Johnson.
Rams receive the 251st pick in the seventh round for Cody Davis.
We traded a 3rd and 5th for Marcus Peters. So no 5th round selection.
It's speculated that we will pick up a 7th round compensatory pick for Cody Davis.
I think Snead will let Joyner and Suh go continuing his pattern for getting high compensatory picks.
We'll have to see what he decides to...
I expect Snead will maximize any trade opportunities with our current draft picks. We got Josh Johnson with a middle round pick so SJ's projection is right on.
As for whatever number our first overall pick is, I expect us to select the BPA on defense which will probably be one of DL, OLB, or CB.
Retro - I think Red was referring that the Patriots were interested in Rosen, not us.
An immediate low cost, high reward free agent signing would be ILB Brandon Marshall, 29, who was released today by Denver. He knows Wade's system and when healthy is very productive!
