This team hasn't been able to sustain a winning streak. If you can't run off 6-7 wins in a row it's difficult to separate yourself from the pack. They're currently stuck in the bottom third of the NL.
In 2017 Scooter knocked Peraza out of an everyday second base job. This year it's Dietrich and Iglesias. Iglesias is a true SS and both Scooter and Dietrich being LHB's pounding home runs moved Peraza to the back burner. In 2018 Peraza had SS to himself and had a pretty good season. For whatever...
Jose Iglesias has done a fantastic job. But he will be 30 years old before next ST.... and the market for players in that age range has really depreciated. I wouldn't mind seeing him signed for another year with an option. Wouldn't think it'd be too pricey.
Whether it's an everyday SS or the...
I agree with his assessment of the Reds potential trade value. Nearly everyone this club has acquired the last couple years are players that their former team didn't want or thought they weren't worth the cost of an arbitration salary. The Reds were willing to over pay because they obviously...
Hard to believe the Reds first walk off win came in their 43rd game. As bad as the offense has been..... I guess it's not all that hard to believe.
I quit watching after the 6th inning. Figures they rally and win after I quit watching. I might try that strategy more often, but much earlier in...
The 3rd time through the order thing has been gaining traction for a few years now. Not every pitcher falls victim to it, but there are a lot of guys that do. As for the Reds.... the NL average for SP pitches per game is 90. The Reds SP average 90 pitches per start. The NL average for SP innings...
I'd agree Votto has had some great second halves, but last year wasn't a great 1st or second half. A lot of people thought Votto had an off year in 2018. I think it's the beginning of a trend.
I'd say Peraza has regressed the most. He began to show a little more strike zone discipline last...
You would think it's impossible for the team with the lowest ERA to be in last place nearly 1/4 into the season. Usually the teams with the best ERA's make the playoffs. This team is on pace to lose 96 games.
Sonny Gray is trending towards the guy New York fans remember. He has a 5+ ERA his...
Entering last night the Reds and Giants were two of the better pitching staffs and two of the weakest offenses. They combine for 23 runs..... Go figure.
Baserunners are the key. Tanner Roark is a good example of a guy that allows a lot of baserunners. He's always one gap shot from having a crooked number on the board. To his credit he has wiggled off the hook more times than not. You have to think it's going to catch up with him sooner or later...
You wouldn't make an outfield defense instructional video with this group. Kemp has the best fundamentals, but is a shell from his glory days. Schebler and Puig are both unorthodox, but athletic enough to get by. Winker is slow and steady.
John mentioned Babip awhile back. Just looking at the...
I think Wood was supposed to throw a BP yesterday. Didn't hear how it went. But he's at least 3-4 weeks away from being ready regardless. Bad backs make you day to day even when you're presumed healthy.
Senzel has resumed baseball activities. If he were being viewed as an infielder I think he...
Eventually there will be two call ups. Scooter and Senzel are going to bump someone off this roster. Barring injury I'd say Kyle Farmer is the first to go. The second is debatable.
Heard a guy on local sports talk suggest shaking up the roster by calling up 4A players. Not sure how calling up replacement level talent to replace players performing at replacement level helps.
I think by the beginning of May we'll have a better idea of how good this team is. If they can hold their own the rest of the month against some pretty good teams that would give me a reason to be more optimistic.
I don't expect the Reds to extend Wood or Roark. They potentially already have four of the five rotation guys in place. Castillo, Gray, Mahle, and Disco. Disco is the most questionable of the those four, but he is under team control through 2020 and is still cheap. Wood and Roark are making...
I'd say most fans thought the pitching would get better with the addition of Roark, Wood, and Gray. The reality is it's mostly been guys that were already here.
Derek Johnson was touted as a guru and through 12 games the pitching has made him look like one. We're seeing some of the young arms...
Urena allowed 4 runs in 5 IP and his ERA went down. Chen was left for dead or 6 outs, which ever came first. Regardless of the caliber of the Marlins pitching it's still nice to see the offense explode. Be nice to see it carry over moving forward.
Two more with the fish and a Friday of no...
