Aldon's agent stated that all parties are working toward a goal of a long term deal. This was step one. For Aldon to bet on himself like this is very positive. The team has supported and worked with him in the past, so he does owe them. Very unselfish of Aldon to take a guaranteed contract and...
If Skuta leaves for a starting job, the draft has some nice OLB prospects who can rush the passer. We will definitely also need another DL should Justin retire. There is already a hole left from cutting Ray McDonald. Tank get ready for more PT, same for you Quinton Dial. They looked good last...
Hyde showed enough to warrant being the No. 1 this season. Lynch had 6 sacks and looked good - so long Ahmad Brooks, Johnson looked decent but needs more experience obviously. And I really liked what I saw out of Tank, 3 sacks in the final 3 games.
I guess Gamble would be the next GM then. Not a bad choice. Overall Baalke has done a good job though, but like the other poster said, at some point he needs to be held accountable too.
I thought Martin did well when he played. Grant it, he was only 20 last year! Very young player. He may however end up at LG with Kilgore at C...As for Carradine and Dial, I was very pleased. Tank notched 3 sacks in the final 3 games, and Dial looked good overall as well, grant it he'd be better...
Yep. It makes the re-signing of Skuta very important for that reason. Heaven forbid Aldon or Lynch go down we could be screwed. Also I would not rule out Baalke drafting another pass rusher for deph and competition.
The 3 players who I believe need to significantly perform better imo in 2015 are:
1. Vance McDonald - 2nd round pick, drafted primarily for his pass catching has done very little in that department. He's got all the physical tools and the speed to be a stud, so time to start showing it. It...
Why McCourty? Our safety tandem of Reid and Bethea is fine, they had a very good season. Iupati can walk. You just dont overpay for a G, especially one who's already had a few lower extremity injuries and is inconsistent in pass blocking. No thanks.
I agree. Now unless of course that happens to be a complete G like Steve Hutchinson was. I would rather pay Alex Boone than Iupati. Boone at least has the versatility to slide out and play T if needed.
I just read Maiocco's blog about the Niners FAs this offseason. According to one NFL executive, the 49ers may be willing to offer up to $7 million a year for Iupati. I really hope not. They are paying Anthony Davis 6-6.5 million so I doubt Iupati gets more than that. He is just not an elite G...
I would honestly just let Iupati walk. He's had some lower body injuries which are a concern and his pass blocking is nothing great. They drafted Brandon Thomas last year and Marcus Martin can also play G if needed.
Just wanted to get your guys opinion on possible Niners FA moves this offseason. Focusing mostly on big ticket FAs of course. Frank Gore, I can see him walking honestly. I love him to death, but better a year early than a year late. And considering that the Niners want to run more read option...
The small quick receivers certainly worked against Seattle yesterday. Hopefully Niners can use Ellington and Patton on those underneath routes next year. But definitely need to draft a vertical deep threat WR to keep defenses honest.
Just that Falcons DBs coach of the last 4 years Tim Lewis was hired to be Niners DBs coach. Solid hire imo. Former DBs coach and DC under Bill Cowher with the Steelers, was also Giants DBs coach under Coughlin, and Panthers DBs coach under John Fox. I guess he had a hand in developing Desmond...
I hear ya. But most of their D is already signed to long term contracts. Sherman, Thomas, and Chancellor were already inked to deals before the 2014 season. And recently, they extended Avril and KJ Wright for 4 more seasons. So the only pieces remaining are Malcolm Smith - soon to be FA after...
As far as the OC search goes, I dont doubt that they wanted to bring in someone from the outside. But they kept Geep on board just in case they would get rejected. Now if Tomsula flops, other coaches not wanting to come to SF would be justified in going elsewhere. But if we go 11-5 or 12-4 and...
Baalke has overall done a good job as GM, but my concern is other top notch coaches (should Tomsula flop - I hope not of course) are probably not going to want to come to the Niners as long as he's there holding all the cards and more. Maybe Gamble serves as that buffer/mediator between GM and...
And the reason is because the new DC Eric Mangini has plenty of experience in that department. He coached the Patriots DBs under Belichick from 2000-2004. In 2004 in particular his work shined. Both of his starting CBs Ty Law and Tyrone Poole were on IR, and rookie Asante Samuel as well as an...
