Game Thread: The University of Michigan vs the University of Alabama (Rose Bowl)

Yes. By your own admission the defender wasn't watching where he was going. The defender ran into the kicker who was in the process of bringing his kicking leg down. By the time contact was made the kickers leg was halfway down. Saying that the kicker "tripped" the defender while still in the...

Game Thread: The University of Michigan vs the University of Alabama (Rose Bowl)

The punter was standing on one leg at the time. I'm sorry, but the notion that the punter tripped the defender who wasn't watching where he was going is utter nonsense.

The burden is on the defender not to hit the punter. If he turned around, neglected to watch where he was going and hit the punter it's running into the kicker. And no, the punter didn't keep his leg up an unreasonable length of time.

Game Thread: The University of Michigan vs the University of Alabama (Rose Bowl)

You're right, it was in the first half. My bad. Still, it was a turnover, and it still makes a difference. Michigan scored a TD in the last 3:49 of the first half, which could have been time that Alabama would have burned up with a first down in the possession they missed. I'm amazed that the...

Game Thread: The University of Michigan vs the University of Alabama (Rose Bowl)

Sure, they would have still been in their end, but it would have been first down Alabama. Let's go with your premise, that Michigan would have stopped Alabama in the next three downs and they punted. That would have burned 2 minutes and change off the clock. Michigan scored the tying TD with...

Game Thread: The University of Michigan vs the University of Alabama (Rose Bowl)

I don't understand Alabama's last play in OT either. It's fourth down and goal from the four. You need a touchdown on this play or your season is over. What's called for is a play with options, so if one way to score is blocked, you can do something else to score. So who called a QB run up the...

Game Thread: The University of Michigan vs the University of Alabama (Rose Bowl)

The running into the kicker call that was inexplicably missed would have resulted in an Alabama first down. Instead, Michigan got the ball, the equivalent of an interception on a long pass. Considering that the game ended tied in regulation, any turnover is a big deal.

Let's see how they do with their second string QB vs Georgia first.

    Minnesota #1? Why not?!

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of connections to both the state and University of Minnesota and am a big Gophers fan, but the stat that matters is won-loss and they're currently 5-3. I expect a 7-5 finish and a decent bowl game, but they'll be doing well if they end the season ranked. That's...

No team has ever won 3 Super Bowls in a row. What if the Rams do it?

It's a bit premature to talk about the possibility of three in a row when so far you've only won one in a row.

    SEC Fatigue

I agree that it would be nice to see more OOC games between top teams, but there are a few roadblocks in the way. First more games between top teams means fewer games between top teams and cupcakes. This may seem like a good thing, but football in smaller schools depends on getting a split of...

    Rodgers and Mahomes?

This is a common phenomenon. Mahomes seems to be adjusting well. This just goes to show how ridiculous the standards armchair quarterbacks maintain are. It's not easy winning the conference championship, much less the Super Bowl. Every team that gets that far is hard to beat, as the last two...

    SEC Fatigue

I don't see why not. Let's say Alabama and LSU run out their schedules except that one beats the other, which has happened. So there's an SEC West team at 12-0 and another at 11-1. The same thing happens with, say, Georgia and Florida. Even after the SEC title game that would leave a 13-0 team...

Your 2021-2022 2nd Divisional Round World Champion, Bengals

9 sacks in a game is too much. It's time to fix the revolving door OL.

Your 2021-2022 2nd Divisional Round World Champion, Bengals

I'm a big Burrow fan, so I'll be rooting for the Bengals, but there's no way I'd bet against the Chiefs.

Where Does the KC-BUF Duel From Last Night Rank Amongst Non-SB's All Time?

Was that the one where Kellen Winslow Sr. just decided to take over the game? That one was pretty special.

Yep. That play belongs in the Hall of Shame.

Game Thread: Bengals vs. Oakland - Playoffs? Playoffs!

Nope. Bengal's QB Joe Burrow was running towards the sideline. At the last second before he went out of bounds, he threw a pass that was caught in the end zone. The sideline ref thought Burrow was out of bounds when he threw the ball and blew the whistle when the ball was about a foot away...

    SEC Fatigue

I like the idea of more top tier OOC games, but what you're asking for is OOC games where BOTH teams are in the top 25 at the end of the year. The problem is that it's very difficult to predict who the top 25 teams are going to be at the end of 2021 when you're scheduling games in 2017. Of the...

    SEC Fatigue

That's not a bad idea, but it's not the same thing as trying to schedule a game against one of some future year's top 25.

    SEC Fatigue

It's a valid point, but college football games are scheduled years in advance. It's hard to know in advance which teams are going to FINISH in the top 25 the year you play them, especially when you schedule the game four years ahead of time! It is good that since Strength Of Schedule became...

    SEC Fatigue

It's true that most SEC teams schedule two or three cupcakes every year, but EVERYBODY in the major conferences does that. They're always home games for the major conference team and the cupcake gets to split the take from 100,000 seat stadium, which finances not only the football team, but most...

    SEC Fatigue

Some fun facts: Since the College Football Playoff began with the 2014 season, Alabama has won the Championship game three times. They have also lost three times, four times if you count the time they lost to Ohio State in the first round. The Big10 has won the Championship once (Ohio State)...
