Jeter and Arod. If we’re using extensions then Longoria and Posey. This isn’t remotely similar to giving 30+ year old 1B 10 year contracts, which is why it’s baffling that people bring up Pujols and Miggy when ranting against Machado and Harper.
Seeing how Smoltz had the luxury of pitching to pitchers 2-3 times a game I’d say his K rate was similar to Mussina’s and he enjoyed a dominant run as a closer.
Right...and Mussina’s peak was almost as good and he gave you so much more additional quality seasons. Santana’s career WAR was 50. Mussina’s career WAR, not including his best 5 year run, was almost 56.
Schilling, Brown, and Mussina are all in that 20-40 all time range where arguments can be made for all of them to be better than the other.
Santana, on the other hand doesn’t make much sense and I’ll tell you why: I’m going to use bWAR for this, just because it’s easier for this format.
I...
An argument can be made he’s outside the top 25; if he’s not in your top 50...and easily outside your top 50 that’s just flat out ridiculous. Just for shits and giggles who’s 41-50 on your list that are “easily” above Mussina
I admittedly forgot Verlander, but I’d put Grienke ahead of everyone else you named. Bumgarner’s got the best chance to catch him due to his age, but he’s got to shake the injury bug.
How far down the list? Among active pitchers I’d only put him behind Kershaw, Scherzer...and maybe CC. Unless he implodes I think he’s a lock. He’ll most likely have 220+ wins, 3000 strikeouts, an ERA+ in the 120s, a WAR in the 70s, and a CY Young.
Ignorant and hypocritical is the span of 20 words. Impressive. Nowhere in that post did I call you names (I’m about to) and if you think I did then you’re a fucking idiot.
Please, the “standard” you quoted is vague as shit and you’re not even following it when it comes to Mussina. There’s been around 8000 pitchers to pitch in the major leagues and Moose has been better than all but 25-30 of them. So he’s performed better than 99.7% of everyone who’s ever played...
I’m not giving my opinion, statistically Mussina is a top 25 pitcher of all time; if you want to have a Hall of Feelings, go right ahead. That’s how guys like Harold Baines, Jim Rice and Jack Morris got elected.
Well you’re wrong. Statistically, Mussina is one of the best 25 pitchers of all time, which actually meets your insane 5 players a generation rule. So even by your own insane guidelines Mussina easily passes the threshold.
He did say among the best, not the best. Obviously Hornsby and Joe Morgan has better stretches, but outside of those two Utley’s right there with everyone else.
And why should it be that? Aside from the very first class the HOF has never been just for the Ruth’s, Aarons’ or Mays’, so you’re trying to turn it into something that it’s never been.
