I'm in the same boat. Was looking at an 80% AR9 kit last spring for about $400 total (80% lower, upper kit, lower parts kit etc) Now you can't even find parts to piece one together. There's still stuff out there for AR15 and a bit for AR10, but any specialty caliber is hard to find.

AR500 is a type of steel, which will be available by most manufacturers of plate carriers. It's heavy stuff.
