Since they had less time off than most other teams a 6 starter rotation (periodically through the season) would be a good thing to give last years pitchers a bit of a break. As long as the long middle relievers can take up the slack it's a good way to ensure they are fresh for the playoffs...
That could get interesting if they start giving him reps there in practice everyday. And if he does alright it's another way for him to get ABs and give 1B a breather, could also set up a platoon situation too...
Have read speculation that they will have him on the Opening Day roster and keep him for a couple of weeks to let the other teams rosters settle out before trying to send him to the minors. They obviously think at this time that they can fix his swing and he can become a decent utility player...
The signing pushes the team’s player payroll to the $224MM range, as calculated by RosterResource. They’re around $248MM in luxury tax commitments. Texas is set to pay the competitive balance tax for a second consecutive season. That means they’re taxed at a 30% rate on spending between $237MM...
So either they realized they needed another SP or they don't have enough confidence in the long relievers they have in camp, either way it's a good thing they needed another body for the 1st half...
And the thing that "temporarily" helps Walsh is he is an established 1B and nobody else is. Even when we had Garver who was the backup Lowe only got 1 day off.. Even if Walsh is kept I think it will only be long enough to showcase him for a trade, unless more injuries crop up to keep him around...
Yes, to see which one they keep...
Right now it seems like a tossup but both have things working against them like Walsh being LHed and lots of Ks, and Foscue only being an IFer and no MLB experience...
Either one would cost you about the same somewhere is the $8M or so range. I imagine character would be a deciding factor for the team so Lorenzen could be the preferred choice...
Well looks like Foscue may have a clear shot at the opening day roster if he didn't already...
Too bad Crim isn't on the 40 he's been having a good ST and "maybe" could have ended up make Lowe expendable...
I think it was a combination of things this years that made teams hold off on some of the players he represented. Take Montgomery for instance he's a decent pitcher that had a good run with the Rangers in 23. The word I seen was he was looking for a long term contract worth close to $200M based...
Montgomery's still not signed because Boras is trying to get him a higher $ contract than what his lifetime stats are worth. I also think he really wants to come back to the Rangers or otherwise he'd already be signed by someone else. If he comes back to Texas I think it will be 3-4 years at...
