I corrected what I initially stated after rewatching the video.
I had forgot that Gordon didnt start with the ball in his hands because he needed a springboard.
Once elevated though, he still couldnt clear him which caused the chain reaction including his knees getting caught up in and wrapped...
This year, I think all were completed by the 3rd attempt. Not too bad.
Jones Jr was clean after his first dunk.
Maybe eliminate scoring entirely.
Start with 4 players. All get 1 dunk.
When finished. Judges eliminate 1.
Repeat round 2.
That leaves 2 finalists.
Let each do 2 dunks.
Judges...
Exactly
Video speaks for itself.
1. He propelled himself pushing the ball off of his head.
2. Falls needed to bend his neck down, then was clipped by Gordons knees which forced him bend down, probably near 2 feet.
Feel free to dispute any of that.
Let me know where to look on the video.
Jesus.
Watch the video.
His knees basically clipped Falls neck, which forced him to bend down , probably a couple feet.
The dunk was ANYTHING but clean.
Not only that, but on the approach, he used the ball to help propel himself.
No chance in hell could he ever have started with the ball in...
@Wamu
His head is bent down. Gordons knees are below Falls elbows and he's inches from him.
Please explain how its possible from that point to cleanly jump over him?
Jones, after the contest, thought the Gordon-Fall dunk wasn't totally smooth, perhaps sealing the deal for him.
"He clipped Tacko's head, so they couldn't give him a 50," he said. "I expected them to give him a 48 so we could go again."
Wade, in round 1 said he was deducting for misses. He didnt stick to it.
And, what rules?
Thats the issue.
Regardless, he didnt come close to clearing him, which also isnt a rule.
Anyone can say it lol.
Doesn't make it accurate.
I dont even think Gordon is claiming he cleared him. It wasn’t even close.
Also, do u feel there should be a penalty for missing on an attempt?
“Gordon, who wanted to jump over the slightly shorter-than-Fall Shaquille O’Neal but got his invitation declined, decided to bring Fall out and needed a 49 to win. But he didn’t totally clear Fall, and the judges gave him a 47. Just like that, Jones was the champion.”
I guess the NY times is...
Thats your opinion, which is fine.
I also think if you miss an attempt, it should be held against you, as it was against Jones Jr in round 1.
Put NBA radio on right now.
Hosts are saying pretty much what my opinion is, including both saying Gordons last dunk was nothing special and he didn’t...
Im not saying what Gordon did wasn’t impressive. Im saying he in no way jumped over him.
Both great athletes, scoring system ridiculous, but Jones Jr certainly did nothing for people to say he didn’t deserve to win.
Jones Jr dunk in the 1st OT was >> Gordons.
Should have been over at that point...
He didnt jump over him.
You need a pic with him on his shoulders?
That would require no contact.
Gordon did basically the same thing every round.
At least Jones Jr had variance.
Make it a high jump contest if you want.
Jones Jr would win.
Did you watch it?
No need to propel, it was one motion, but yes, hes on his shoulders, after he ducked to allow him up there.
He in no way jumped over him.
Wade said he wanted a tie, and was told there had to be a winner.
Probably because its a big gambling event.
If he gives a 10, its another tie.
By next year, there will some scoring rule change.
This system is stupid.
Not only that, judges discussed what score they were giving.
