Golden State is relatively young and in their primes. These guys can ball all day and night. If your only hope is them running out of gas come playoff time, you're doomed.
Based on Cane's post, the 2011 Miami Heat were really the first players picking where they want to play superteams. Danny boy put his together through trades.
Can he continue to improve to be worthy of that max contract he'll no doubt receive this summer? He will have plenty of suitors and is very likely on the Lakers radar. I think he would be a good fit with the current Lakers youth.
Plenty of bad teams in all eras. I think you are underselling the more recent ones.
What do you consider the start of the "superteam" era? Kobe was several years into his career prior to 2011.
Not even a pick swap. Celtics own the pick. No protections. They also have Dallas and Minnesota's first rounders, although with some protections. And their own first rounder!
This isn't like a Kareem retirement tour. Kobe didn't want that. He's getting maybe a short video and an extended intro (lots of accolades to mention) before games. Not much else really. Nothing to get your jimmies rustled over.
Tough questions Cane....
1) In 1995 upon Michael Jordan's return, the Bulls bowed out to Shaq and the Orlando Magic. They did, however, pull off an upset in the first round that year. What team did the Bulls eliminate? Pacers
2) In 2003, the Dallas Mavericks, led by Dirk, Nash, and...
I don't hold Finals losses against a player. Magic went to 9. Lost 4. However, the greats are ultimately distinguished by their wins. Malone is second on the all-time leading scorers list. He's never discussed as being in the top 10 though. If he had beaten Jordan a couple of times, the...
Notoriety? I thought you were talking about talent levels? The players don't make the rules.
And teams did tank. Why do you think they created the lottery system?
Each team plays 82 regular season games. There is plenty of opportunity to see real basketball. The All-Star game and weekend festivities are supposed to be fun exhibitions of these skilled athletes.
