Segura is unpredictable so we'll see.
Im sick and tired of talking and hearing about Walker's "potential"

Im okay with this trade.

I read somewhere that Segura has 1 yr left before arbitration while Marte has 4. But the power is unmatched... marte was not ready. If segura can producenlike last year i'll be happy. But as i said, he's unpredictable.

I like this trade. We need to come to grips that Walker likely isn't living up to his hype. He has been given three seasons here and hasn't put it together. Yes we are selling low here but I think the value could easily get lower then higher over time. Marte sucked and I don't think he will ever be anything. The Ms got the best player in this deal. Obviously this hurts the pitching depth but it's November so I'll let the next three months play out. I think the team is better today then it was yesterday

Dont forget he played 137 of 158 games at 2B. At same time his offensive numbers went up. That is my bigger worry.

I have no problem trading Walker but pitching is so hard to come by and this is all we get for him and Marte?

Now if we sign a legit SP, it more than makes up for it.

DBacks are selling high on Segura. It's a gutsy trade, the type of trade that can make or break a GM. So I like it for that reason. Hopefully Segura will be the leadoff hitter this franchise has sorely been missing since Ichiro was still in his prime.

And I guess the new regime just didn't like what they saw in Tai Walker. Randy Johnson and Felix Hernandez were slow to develop at the MLB level also. I hope Dipoto knows what he is doing.

We gave up 5 years of control over Marte and four years of control over Walker for two years of control over Segura. Seems like Dipoto is building the team for immediate success rather than long term success. Now we have four potential all stars in the lineup.

I agree... Like I said earlier I like Segura but the weakest spot on this team right now is pitching and we keep getting thinner there. I actually like the outfielder Mitch Haniger we got also. former first rounder. Could be a solid role player/ fill in guy from the right hand side.

We do not have a legit 5 man rotation as it stands right now. That being said I am fine with trading walker I think he had value as a trade piece and in a way so did Marte. I don't mind that we traded those players but I will be pissed the starting rotation doesn't get upgraded.

After winter meetings I think we will have a good picture of what the team will start to look like going into next season.

This trade reminds me a bit of 2008 and 2010 when the team was unexpectedly competitive the season before and the GM went all in rather than continuing the rebuild.

In the offseason between 2007 and 2008 they signed Carlos Silva and traded for Eric Bedard, and the team then went 61-101.

In the offseason between 2010 and 2011 they signed Chone Figgins, traded for Cliff Lee, gave Guti a fat five-year contract and brought back a washed-up Ken Griffey, and again, the team then went 61-101.

I see what you are saying and i hope you are wrong or here we go again...qnd again...and again.

With that said, i guess we will always be a franchise that has to take more chances than most.

After reading up more on the OF, i am liking him more as well. He is different than the other OF's Dipoto has brought in. He has some power qnd is still a solid defensive OF.

Never a dull off season with Dipoto.

Well in a way, it shows that Dipoto has more confidence in the minor league system than anybody else seems to have. Usually this type of deal involves a top prospect not two major leaguers. The other two Dbacks IMO are more to watch since a straight up Walker would've allowed Marte to season up in Tacoma waiting for the eventual move to DH for Cano.

Even if Segura has an adjustment period that drops his numbers down from what they were last year, it's hard for me to imagine him not being the best hitting shortstop we've had here in 17 years anyway.

Obviously with the potential that Walker still has and with as young as Marte still is, it would have been unsurprising if Dipoto had chosen to keep them, at least going into the season, to wait for a breakthrough to happen, but I think the fact that he chose to trade them now is an indication that he doesn't think that that breakthrough is going to happen now. If Dipoto is trying to build a winner now, which I believe he is, then he really can't afford to keep guys who might personally have expectations of making the 25-man (or 26-man if the rosters get expanded with the new CBA) roster, but who have only, so far, shown flashes.

Trading Walker leaves a definite hole in the rotation at the moment, but based on his, so far, short career consisting of both flashes of dominance and perplexing periods of going backwards in development, (not to mention injuries) I think Dipoto might have seen Walker's spot in the rotation as a hole already. It certainly suggests that they had more faith in Paxton's ability to up his game in 2017 than in Walker's ability to do the same. Better to trade him now when you know you can get something back for him that you want than to try to trade him later, not knowing what he's going to give you in the meantime, and hoping you can get something useful in return.

I agree, but truth is I haven't seen Dipoto put much value in pitching anyway or at least there is very little evidence thus far that he values a solid pitching staff. This team was weak at SP going into last season and we had to use 13 different starters over the course of the season because of that. The hole is getting bigger and bigger and not much has come in to fill behind.

My hope is that Dipoto adds a middle rotation guy via trade or FA, then we get a surprise or two in Peoria. even then I still think we are weak there.

I heard talk of a possible lockout in December if a new CBA isn't agreed to by the 1st, so I wonder if there are going to be many moves in the next few days since it could be a while before any team can do anything if the lockout happens.

I'm not saying 2008 and 2010 are going to happen again, I'm just saying that this trade kind of reminds me of that. What it really reminds of is the Eric Bedard trade, when we traded two future all stars for a guy whose was constantly having vaginal yeast infections.

But I'm still hoping for the best. As I said in another post, this is the type of trade that can make or break the legacy of a GM.

I got what u were saying and i was in agreement with it. Using my phone to comment makes my posts short and at times lacking my point.

I just took a quick look at the list of FA starting pitchers. There isn't much help there. The top six pitchers, in no particular order, are Doug Fister, Jason Hammel, Rich Hill, Colby Lewis, and CJ Wilson.

Hill is an injury risk and because he is linked to some high payroll teams, will probably be out of the s price range.
Lewis and Wilson are aging strikeout pitches with not much left on their fastball.
Hammel is coming off of a career year and turns 35 during the 2017 season. He'll also get an inflated contract.
Fister is an interesting option but I don't know if a reunion with him would be wise at this point.

Unless they pull of an unexpected big trade for a starting pitcher then I'm guessing will are going to be underwhelmed with who ever they bring in. You can dream about Chris Sale or Justin Verlander, but it won't happen. We don't have the players in our farm system to snag one of those guys.

Rich hill would be worth the risk at this point but u r correct we would be battling the big boys for his services.

The only player with enough trade value is Diaz. Might have to in the right deal.
