Vintage Sox baseball.

Capitalize on mistakes and make the opposing pitcher work, not necessarily in that order each time.

Of course I like being up 1-0, and the Sox sent a message by beating Wainwright. What I also liked was that the Sox also beat up on the supposedly unbeatable power arms of the Cards bullpen.

Matheny thought he was giving these guys work to get their feet wet, but they could come out of it with the confidence shattered.

If you are a Cards fan, it sucks seeing that call reversed, but the umps got the call right. Didn't the Cards benefit last season on that "infield fly rule" call against the Braves?

The X-rays and CT scan on Beltran's ribs came back negative, but he is still sore. I guess he is questionable for tonight.

Lester was fantastic last night. He pitched like he needed to . He threw first pitch strikes and didn't fall in love with his cutter early. He used his straight fastball to get early strikes and then finished with the cutter and curve. He also got out of those 4th and 5th inning james with good pitches.

I honestly believe the Sox beat Wacha tonight. He has been nearly unhittable against inferior offensive teams, and if the Sox get baserunners early, it could take some of that shine off him. They need to stick with the same approach. Take early and work the count.

It helped yesterday that Wainwright didn't have his curve working. The Sox were able to lay off when they needed to, and didn't K nearly as much because of it.

Cards fans will complain, and I can't blame them. It was a tough pill to swallow because like you said, the call never gets reversed. As a Sox fan, I am happy, but as a fan of the game you want to see the correct calls.

I think we also saw an evolution in umpiring. In the NFL, the refs confer all the time. Why not in MLB?

the NFL refs get screamed at a lot with nobody getting ejected. for some reason, they tolerate that behavior a lot more than MLB does.

I liked the fist pump/salute at the end.

Why didn't they also have him lead the crowd in "Sweet Caroline". That would have been funny.

Because he doesn't deserve that kind of humiliation?

aBSOLUTELY THE CORRECT CALL. Though I honestly did not think they could overturn a judgement call like that though

I actually have on problem with the call reversal because it was obvious that it should have been reversed.

That was an old fashioned Murphy's Law game for the Cards. They got thumped once in the NLDS and thumped once in the NLCS so maybe they just got their worst game out of the way. It looked like we were on the other side of the game 1 of the 2006 world series. Siegrist has a 6.00 ERA in the postseason which is a far cry from his 0.45 ERA in the regular season so thats something of note for the rest of the series.

Game 2 is pretty much a must win. Cards aren't going to win 4 of 5 so they have to avoid going down 0-2. Itll be interesting to see if Wacha can keep things up.

Team with HFA has also won 22 of the last 27 WS.

Man, the Cards looked like they hadn't played baseball in a while last night. Embarrassing showing.
