Pitt and Cuse are not voting members and were not involved in the vote, though a discussion did take place with both schools.

The vote was apparently 12-0 to add ND.

It was at least 9-3 to up the exit fee.

They ALSO get a share of bowl payouts from the conference - they basically raked the ACC over the coals

so does the rest of the ACC get a share of Notre Dame's bowl payouts when it goes to an ACC affiliated bowl? if not, then yes they did rake us over the coals

ND gets a share of the non-BCS bowl money.

So what.....

And if they are bowl eligible, they will be in an ACC affiliated bowl, so yes all teams would get a share of that.

Hell Duke gets a share of the BCS payout, so I don't see any reason that this is bad.

okay, then i have no problem...just making sure that they weren't going to go to an acc bowl, then say "but we're not in the ACC for football, we're indy, so we're keeping it all"

if it is how you say, then sounds fair to me

There is talk of changing the 9 game conference schedule back to 8 because of this move; Clemson/FSU/GT will now have one OOC slot open every third year if the 9 game schedule remains because of the traditional rivalry games with SCar/UF/UGA respectively... :puke:

Financially this is a gain for both programs because the bowl payout is the same as it was before but the ACC bowl payout will be more than the Big East which helps ND. The ACC teams will get about 2-3 million more per team (projected) based on the renegotiated TV deal.

I don't like the buyout, but it makes the conference stable.

The fact is that the BCS that Notre Dame helped form has altered the landscape of college sports so that conference affiliation is all. The muscular Notre Dame that was there at the creation, a team you could pencil into the top 10, has gone the way of flannel grunge and Wu-Tang Clan CDs. In its place is a school that, if it didn't make the BCS lineup, was having trouble finding a bowl game worthy of its tradition.

Notre Dame was powerful enough to join the Big East in 1995 without surrendering any of its football independence. Contrast that with today, when Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said in a news release that the deal with the ACC will "maintain our historic independence in football."

Technically, he is correct. But it is independence by a vote of 7-5. Notre Dame will play seven games against whomever it chooses, and five games against the ACC. It is a weaker, meeker Notre Dame that made a deal with the ACC, the Monty Python knight yelling, "merely a flesh wound" as it loses limb after limb. Notre Dame has made sacrifices that the university and its partisans never dreamed would have to be made even a decade ago.

Notre Dame is not a full-fledged member of the ACC yet. But the trend is unmistakable.

Plus this will most likely help the ACC secure another NYD bowl.

ND will continue to wield unwarranted influence as long as these conferences are willing to bend over and take it from them.

Shame on the ACC or any other conference that is/was willing to let them "join" with special consideration.

the rumors are that fsu is livid.....the exit fees are extremely high because some schools refused to sign a gor.....the added schools of pitt and cuse gave them enough votes

I had to sit in a sport an event management class today and listen to the professor explain how great of a leader john swofford is. But he has done a lot of things to make teams want to leave the acc. I'm pretty sure if it weren't for the exit fees that VT, Clemson, FSU, and GT would be actively pursuing a new conference if they aren't already. But...Pitt and Syracuse are members of the conference and deserve to have their voice heard

not so sure about that...fsu is reportedly pissed and the maryland AD said the 50 mil exit fee is not enforceable

I hope it's not. That's ridiculous. At that price you are now stuck in the ACC whether you like it or not and if Maryland was one of the votes against this bullshit exit fee then I would be livid too.
