I’m pretty sure Portugal (Population 10 mil) had about as many cases yesterday as all of Canada (37 mil) did. Calm your tits, EU.

I don't really have an issue with being banned from anywhere or everywhere.
who the fuck is considering travelling in the foreseeable future anyway?
(other than my parents, who are in their 80's and still hopeful for a European river cruise in April)

I just kind of want to know why we keep seeing so many flights come into Canada
every day, it seems there's another 3 or 4 COVID tainted flights at YVR.
and policy is the airlines won't tell you if you were on one. It's up to you to check some website.

I haven't seen my sister since Christmas, haven't hugged my parents since February, have had dinner with exactly one other family since February (outdoor in their back yard), don't know when I will ever play hockey again..... and the country is still letting unknown variables in with relatively voluntary screening/isolation.

In HK, they test everyone who arrives, and don't let you leave the airport until the negative result comes back. If you get tested late in the day, you stay in an attached hotel overnight until your test is ready in the morning. If you are positive, you are quarantined in a separate hotel for at least 2 weeks.

It's weird - I flew out to Vancouver from Toronto back in May to see if I wanted to relocate and I got to the airport in Toronto late so I couldn't really check out the flights but I left YVR on a Sunday morning and there were maybe ten total flights heading out that day and only one was int'l, to Seattle.

Back in August I flew back to TO to tie up some loose ends and there were like 20 int'l flights on the board - to Europe, Asia, the States, etc.

I don't remember any announcement from the feds as to re-opening mass international travel, it just seemed to happen gradually and I'm not exactly sure why there wasn't broader discussion about it considering we still can't travel to Atlantic Canada without quarantining lol.

That said, there are some reasons people could have to fly - a lot of people have immediate family elsewhere and jobs they can't just leave behind and going this long without seeing your children and spouse would be horrible. There are work reasons I'm sure. Things like that. We're still only at 25% of pre-pandemic flight volume.

Not sure what the solution is with the flights. More cooperation from the airlines???

Bccdc releases flight numbers (on twitter even) that had travellers who end up testing positive. 9 of the last 10 flights (there have been 10 flights disclosed the past 3 days) in and out of bc (includes pg, kelowna and yvr) with people who ended up testing positive were domestic flights :noidea:

/and remember travellers coming in on international flights have to quarantine 14 days ... inter provincial ones dont ... lil problem there

Scrolling down the bccdc twitter feed and its 17 of the last 20 covid flights in bc were domestic flights ... and all those people have been free to go out dining or shopping or to the gym without restrictions before one of their fellow passengers tested positive :L

/i think i know what the solution with flights is now lol

That's not ideal.

BGSU is, as planned, shutting down @ Thanksgiving break. Finals are remote. The boy's been okay, if somewhat isolated. His biggest in person class was 7 people.

Really expecting another hard lockdown in the next few weeks. Columbus City Schools were going to go to in person learning Nov 1. They dropped that, and pushed off til late January. My Kid's district is still blended (50% capacity - everyone is one week home, one week in school) but cases are going up. Expect that's gonna change too.

Fuck.

I mean, it takes a special kind of monster to keep saying the same lies when the situation continues to worsen...
