I say we schedule 3 '"noncon" games against the Big 12 for nostalgias sake. I would like K-St, Texas, and OU... in the order.
lol your 1-9 vs Texas but hell this could be the year lol

Frankly, I don't think Texas is all that good anyway, but knew people like you would bitch if we went with another former Big 8 member.

And all but 2 (one a piece) have been close (one possession) games. If you didn't have the comish and refs in your pocket... who knows what would have happened lol...

wait for it... here it comes...

So yer sayin' the Huskers wins in '33, '60 and '74 don't count? Texas leads the all time series 10-4. They haven't played since 2010.

Like who?

You have to remember, you're not just replacing their football team, you're replacing their fanbase.

That is a fanbase that, no matter how bad their team is, sells out their stadium every Saturday and is willing to travel all over the country to support their teams, thus adding to the revenues of every other team in the conference.

That’s old school thinking. That’s chump change compared to TV sets

I'm sure you cornfans are about to get pissed about this. Southland canceled it's season but Houston Baptist is still going through with it's non conference schedule, cause they gotta get PAID

When you are dealing with a contract in the $50-100+ million range -- they will have every base covered and without question it will have a force majeure clause. No school is getting paid if games aren't played.

And while we can't see the actual contracts the school sign to join a conference -- it is a no brainer to assume they have verbiage inside them where they can't play outside the conference with the exception of certain # of OOC games (3) and bowl games.

We aren't talking about elementary contracts here, where it is scribbled on a piece of paper. The contracts are probably 100's of pages long and covers the conferences ass for any and all situations. And even IF they didn't have a clause for a pandemic prior to Nebraska joining the B1G -- the H1N1 was in 2009, before Nebraska joined the B1G, so they would have added one as a precaution. Though the force majeure would most likely cover it anyways.

I agree that the contracts are long and very detailed, covering about every possible scenario imaginable at the time the contract was written with very specific language as to the rights of the teams. I do not believe you will find a COVID clause, but postponement/cancellation of games will be covered. I do NOT believe that Nebraska can formally join any other conference unless there is a clause about sports not offered by the conference, and even then the language will be very specific.

IMHO the thing that keeps Nebraska from playing 10 OOC games is that the BiG has not cancelled the season so until they do then playing more than three games would violate the NCAA's limit of total games ... it is not the conference that limits practices/game but the NCAA while the conferences regulate within the NCAA limits ... so they would not be allowed to put themselves in the position of violating the NCAA limits or conference contracts. Either way we will get our best look at the behind the scenes view of how conferences operate and I find that fascinating.

EDIT: At least that is how I think the NCAA/conferences operate in this area. If I am wrong, I will have learned a little.

They wouldn't need a clause for Covid or even a pandemic, though I'd guess the Pandemic would probably be included. Force Majeure covers any unforeseen circumstance that leads to a contract being able to be honored. A pandemic would fall under that as well.

I would guess the contracts for every CFB in the country is ironclad and it is only honored if the games are played.

Will definitely be interesting to see how it all plays out, but as we see already with Nebraska -- they already said they aren't going anywhere to play outside the B1G

I agree that it will be covered in the contract. I also realize that the networks and conferences negotiate competing interests and both sides had to give and take in areas. This could be one that protected the networks, or not. I agree that Nebraska cannot join another conference but that does not necessarily preclude them from playing some games at the least. In the end IMHO the conference wins the day because they have not canceled the season yet so at the very most, Nebraska may be able to play three OOC games. We will see what foresight the conference, universities and networks had and what they valued at the time of negotiations.

There’s some funny irony in this Nebraska thing. They always bitched about how the Big 12 was “controlled by Texas” yet they want to go right back? Lol
