They pretty much had no choice. How are the going to put a season together as a independent with everyone else cancelling OOC games?

This isnt some "SIGN THE SEASON IS OVER" like some may want to claim

As for the fall season, games against Illinois, Indiana, Maine, and Mississippi had already been canceled by those schools’ conferences. The team noted that “uncertainty surrounded” games against North Carolina and Virginia.

Also one of the non cancelled games was a trip @ San Jose State, which I doubt would end up happening

Its a little late to scramble to fill 5 or 6 games for a situation like them.

I was expecting this from the Huskies. They had lost 4 to 6 games off their schedule - mostly money games. I figured it would be easier for them to close up shop for the season rather than try to re-schedule. I just wonder if they will still field a FB team next year?

BYU has also lost a ton of games off their schedule. I wonder what they will end up doing?

What do you think about following an NFL format and have teams play each other twice?

Truth be told, none of the G5s have a lucrative enough tv deal to make it without the money games their teams receive from playing the P5 teams. Same for the independents sans Notre Dame.

Schools like mine, Bowling Green, Troy, etc would probably be better off canceling as well. We've already lost the Texas Tech game. If we lose the Texas game it'll be a real deep financial blow instead of just a jab! None of the C-USA games can cut it financially. Same for our C-USA foes. I doubt fans at Marshall and WKU are overly excited about my Miners being on the schedule.

UTEP is something of an outlier, being so far away from just about everyone they play on a regular basis (except for NMSU). And C-USA, in general (along with the AAC), is spread out over a pretty wide territory.

The lack of money games will definitely hurt a lot of the G-5 & FCS schools, but leagues like the Sun Belt & MAC are far more compact & able to cope a little better.

Yeah, their travel expenses should be less. But, I don't think any of the G5 schools come close to generating enough revenue on their own to make it. We've always been an outlier and men's basketball generated a lot of revenue back in the day. But, two things have killed us there. First, being in C-USA doesn't create any interest when the teams come to town. Secondly, we haven't been worth a shit in hoops in quite a while.
