One week ago the NFL had 95 positive cases of coronavirus -- expect more cases to arise in the coming days -- and more infections to occur as the opening of camps continue.

I have ranted about this before on here and about other sports in general - it is an absolute mistake and just selfish for sports to come back in ANY capacity while the country and world are still dealing with a pandemic.

We all know about the protocols and procedures that MUST be followed in order to reduce the chances of infections or worse. The fact is, sports will have a tougher, if not impossible time following these protocols and procedures as they get going again. Furthermore, a lot of players are obviously more interested in playing and chasing the money as opposed to keeping themselves and those around them safe. We have already seen careless behavior from players around sports and the consequences of that within the sport and their families.

This virus is highly contagious and still spreading - and there are STILL MANY unknowns about the nature of it. The experts have said it time and again - following social distancing protocols and good hygiene is one way to MITIGATE the problem but it won't solve it.

Fact is until there is a cure/vaccine, it is simply not safe to go on with life with a "business as usual" mentality, or even anything close to it.

There is simply NO reason for the NFL nor any other sport to play until it is deemed FULLY safe to do so.

That being said, I will still watch games as I have been watching every other sport I enjoy - but it has been disappointing how they've ALL PREMATURELY returned to play and seeing the obvious negative effect this ongoing pandemic has had on their premature returns. It is unfortunate that the NFL, like every other league -- is willing to sacrifice the virus spreading throughout their leagues before even considering calling off their seasons for the sake of chasing the money.

We need to be better than this.

With that, I wish you all well. Stay safe. Mask the fuck up!

FINS UP!

I forgot to add that I think the NFL should look to create a pool of money to pay the players who decide to opt-out of the season. In my opinion, these guys are the ones that should be compensated extra for deciding to do the right thing and opt-out of playing this season in order to keep themselves safe. The guys that decide to play should just be paid whatever they were going to earn for playing this season.

In my opinion, the players who opt-out of playing are the ones sacrificing the most by opting not to play/earn their salary as they normally would because they are choosing to do the right thing and keeping themselves, families and others safe.

Come at me for this.

The opt out amount is 150K and 350K for high risk players.

I think players should be able to decide if they want to play. Most of these guys have short careers. In other jobs in our society individuals are getting to decide if they go to work unless they get laid off. NFL players deserve the chance to make that decision also.

As a Fins fan I am glad that none of the Dolphins players have opted out yet.

I want to see the Fins on the field. The Dolphins organization has been exemplary in their efforts to keep players safe. This year could be the turning point for the organization and players want to be a part of that.

Nope should be an individuals choice just as long as they are taking all precautions and testing is being done. Now if this was ebola different story but it isn't so why take someone's livelihood away from them? I like that they have a choice and respect everyone's decision to play or not.

Agreed FlyerFinFan.

The Fins had their first opt out. WR Hurns opted out. I respect his decision. I think the Fins will be fine at WR. It's a deep position for the team. There is gifted young talent like Jennings Jr. who will have even more of a chance to earn a spot now.

WR Wilson also opted out. The team still has two guys with #1 level talent; Williams and Parker. Ford was playing well at the end of the year. Grant has always had potential. He just needs to stay healthy. I think Jennings Jr. could step up and help the team. There are other players like Merritt who now have a better chance of making the team.

Fitzpatrick brought the best out of TE Gesicki. Wilson opting out could create even more of a need for his playmaking ability.

WR/RB/QB Perry is an intriguing prospect. It takes time to learn routes but he could make it interesting. He is very shifty.

RE the slot: Grant could cause problems for defenses with his speed in the slot.

There is a good chance that covid could write this year's record.
I'd hate to think that half of my team would catch covid and have a bad year.
Likewise, I'd hate to think my team had a great year because all their oponnents caught covid.
Stay healthy and hopeful.....

I am not one for excuses. Every team has to make adjustments. To win this year would be a major accomplishment for the players, coaches, and all the members of the organization for the team who wins.

well that's a first but go look back they've had a severe disparity of away thursday night games. The Fins well have another Thursday away game this year what else is new.
