in this case the changing landscape = minimal exposure for some of the top players in CBB.

Exposure will follow the best players and the best teams. If Howard has one of the best teams in the country, you can bet they will get on national TV.

serious question

why do y'all hope this starts a trend? unless you are an alum of a HBCU, it makes zero sense to wish for this to happen

Simply from a selfish standpoint, it would in theory, weaken the top of the sport, and make things much more wide open(assuming, for instance, like 4/5 top 25ish kids did this/yr.) My team has little chance to be consistently great. Because of that, the more wide open the sport is the best chance we have at putting together a special year. It's going to take things coming together for it to happen, but if Duke/UK/Kansas/UNC each have one less top 25 kid, maybe that's the difference?

A year like this past year, was a great example. Top of the sport you have teams like Baylor, Dayton, SDSU, Creighton, Seton Hall etc... Had Coffey come back, I'm gonna guess we could have been a top 15 team. At that point anything can happen in a single elimination tournament.

which network and what time? ESPN, FOX and CBS have national tv deals with P5 conferences + Big East and AAC

ESPN is pretty booked from Monday-Thursday with their conference deals.

this makes sense + this is the logical result that will take place from this becoming a trend. not the MEAC and SWAC becoming powerhouse conferences that must be aired on national TV.

Obviously not during the next season. But TV contracts change and if some of the best basketball in America was happening in the SWAC or MEAC, you could bet every dollar you have, ESPN would make sure it was being televised.

ESPNU typically did a SWAC game opposite Big 12 game on Big Monday. I think there would be inventory for ESPNU at 7 and 9 on Monday's and probably Fridays. It wouldn't be anything special though, if a deal ever happens.

couple of things to consider:

-basketball doesn't drive TV deals. Football does. Men's basketball is just along for the ride. Big East is an exception to this rule and they were given the benefit of the doubt due to their historical status as a top tier basketball league.

-unless these top prospects start ditching the P6 schools completely, then there just won't be enough talent to go around for the MEAC and SWAC to significantly enhance their basketball profile. There could be enough talent for a specific program in those conferences to increase their profile. That's about it.

-MEAC and SWAC are currently two of the worst conferences in CBB. They are a couple of steps below the southern conference as it currently stands.

-Maker and anyone who chooses to pick the MEAC and SWAC should be given credit. They are doing something that top prospects haven't done in a long time.

sounds like minimal exposure to me, which has been my point from the beginning. We shouldn't care, because it's not our decision to make.

Worst case scenario here is that the blue chippers that go to your traditional blue bloods don't become a part of the trend. It's the odd blue chipper that chooses to go to non-traditional powers that end up at the HBCU's. That would decrease parity, not expand it.

Football is definitely the larger piece of the puzzle but Men's basketball is not irrelevant. You mentioned the Big East. The networks aren't covering them out of pity, they are doing it because it's top tier basketball. if the MEAC and SWAC got there, they would get similar coverage.

I understand how big the gap is currently. This isn't something that will be changed in a year. If this becomes a trend for a decade, then you will see the coverage start to change but slowly.

It would for sure be minimal. I can't see ESPN bumping anything off ESPN or ESPN2. The ratings just wouldn't justify it.

Is this where all these crazy racists are coming from these days? Colleges like Howard, Morehouse and Tuskegee that aren't assimilating their students into American adults.
