Again, just because Kryptonite didn’t exist “naturally” on Earth until ‘89 Doesn’t mean that Kryptonians were ignorant about its properties before then. Krypton had been a space faring world for centuries by the time it blew up. I think it is more likely that they discovered its properties when in the vicinity of a yellow star than assuming they hadn’t. Again, they had a long history in the Sol System with their political relationship with Martians and their visitations on Earth.

You are assuming that Kryptonite didn’t exist until Krypton exploded. But Kryptonite is just a piece of Krypton by my theory. It is completely inert until exposed to the radiation of a yellow star (Sol, for example). Since the Kryptonian system has a red star, Kryptonite does not hurt Kryptonians when not near a yellow star.

As for Erica Durance, I was never a fan. But I get that they wanted a contrast from the petite young looking Kristin Kreuk, so they went with the Amazonian to play Lois. That makes sense from a casting POV. Introducing her so early was a bit disappointing. And having her actually attending Smallville High? Ridiculous.

one question I have that maybe you have a theory for...

Why didn’t Lex know who Jason was? They basically grew up together, but I never got the sense that they knew each other.

I liked the way they wrote Lois. As a character. But I thought she was brought in a season too early. But again, they needed another friend to replace Pete.

I’m trying to remember, re:Jason. They didn’t make it clear either way imo. He clearly knew who the Teagues were. They kinda rewrote their childhood in s7. Jason probably just didn’t go to the same prep school. I don’t think they said exactly where he went besides MetU for football.

also random fact I found researching Jason:

Jenson Ackles was the runner up to play Clark Kent.

I think the writers made the right call.

They had some flashback scenes with Oliver, Lex and Jason as kids. It really flew in the face the way Lex treated Jason (like he was some random blue-collar Joe who was beneath Lana.

Yikes.

Who knows how the show would have gone with Ackles in the lead. He was much more subdued as Jason then he is as Dean. When you play a single character for 15 years, it makes it hard to see you as anything else.

yes, in season 7. They rewrote that story well after Jason died in s4. It’s a little frustrating

I think what they were subtly hinting at was that lex was already in love with Lana at this point. Lex was at least a multimillionaire if not billionaire at this point. No one else but him was good enough for Lana.

plus, Jason has been cut off. He was no longer rich. He was just another poor hs football coach and college student.

But he didn’t seem shocked at all that Jason was a coach at a HS. That whole dynamic just doesn’t fit with what we learn in later seasons.

Jason was basically Trevor Lawrence or Andrew luck before the shoulder injury. I’m sure lex had heard about what happened. But the luthors and teagues also weren’t friends. There’s some stuff they definitely don’t share to fill in gaps.

@calsnowskier

You finish this yet?
Yeah. A while ago.

the finale seemed very rushed, but most finales feel rushed.

The Legion of Doom image was super cheesy looking, but the entire final season really leaned into the comic-book-absurd, so it wasn’t too out of place.

Maybe a tad.

I really liked s10. It gave some sense to A lot about Clark and why he wasn’t flying already etc.

I didn’t like the way they just wiped lex’s memory but they obviously had to after the s7 finale (where lex says he was like a brother to him...chilling. You really wonder what would’ve happened if Clark told him the truth).

I think my favorite seasons were 2, 6, 8, 9, 10 even if it became more CW-ish with stuff.

they just had better villains

I didn’t like that they killed Lex, then made the Lex that we are all familiar with (the adult version, Supe’s foil) was simply a clone. That was cheesy.

I know Connor exists in other medium. And I THINK he is a clone in other medium as well. What is his “real” back story?

There have been a few Superboys (Connor).

There is one version where he is the genetic relative of both Clark and Lex. Test tube baby.

I think Young Justice comes the closest to telling his backstory compared to any other medium that isnt' the source material.

I also didn't love killing Lex. it didnt' really add anything to the story. But it did explain why Lionel Luthor wouldn't have existed for Superman comics. I guess that's....something.

I guess that is better than making Lex... Lex Jr...

that was just weird. And dumb.

yeah, that was really bad. especially since they went to Supergirl with Jimmy knowing Clark's secret.

Different Jimmy. Different Supes.

I know.

But it's still a clear 180. Seemed like an obviously beating over the head admitting they made a mistake on Smallville type move.

Meh.

Remember, SG started as a CBS show. It was not CW out of the gate.

This is pretty cool: in this time of social distancing, the cast of Smallville has been reuniting for virtual livestream panels. About a month ago, they did one for GalaxyCon...:
