Here is an interesting question.

Fiscally speaking is their a difference to the production company (or the legal streaming sites) whether you illegally stream or not watch at all??

If you are talking about pirating, it's the production company.

If you are talking about account sharing, it's the streaming service.

In the end, it's the consumer... those that pay for it because increased pricing.

doesn't answer my question... But lets focus on pirating... Account sharing is a whole other animal... Both, I am guilty of...

and I wonder if the consumer is really penalized for this or if it is just normal Company greed increasing the price of their product... either way, the amount customers pay is not a factor in the argument... as it is their choice to pay more...

chasing profits is fine and all... But you claim that a business that already makes a good profit is going to increase its prices because their profits aren't as high as "it should be"... that's what I call greedy...

and no, that is not why I am guilty for either shared accounts or using third party streaming sites like Kodi…

I wonder how many of you people who look down on pirating movies and tv shows were guilty of the same thing with Music back in the Napster days...

Considering that Netflix is still operating on negative cashflow and is operating on debt... :L

"those fucking profits...." :tsk:

Cheap?
Poor?

:noidea:

I still preferred hard copies, myself... and taking an hour to download a song? I had better things to do, and my time was still more valuable than chasing free music.

That said, it was new and no one knew the true costs to those that appeared in the credits, rather than the label.

I guess this hits the nail right on the head. You must be early 30s or younger? Part of that whole 99% bullshit movement... ENTITLEMENT

Shared accounts is not pirating. Netflix ENCOURAGES account sharing. And that is their choice. Also U2 has released some of their albums online for free. “Pirating” those is also not wrong. The owner of the IP has released it to the public BY CHOICE.

You claim that since there is no direct financial hardship to the owner of the IP, there is nothing wrong with taking it with out paying. That is flawed logic. Apply the extrapolation rule to that practice. If EVERYONE did the action in question, would society be better or worse off?

Is it OK for someone to jump the fence at Disneyland? It doesn’t cost Disney anything additional to let someone in without paying. How about stowing away on a cruise liner? Not paying your water bill or taxes? How about driving on the shoulder to avoid traffic? Or blowing through a red light if there is no one coming?

Never said that it absolves you... but it does help the ethics of the "crime"... No victim crimes are way more ethical than crimes with a victim...

Also, using third parties, you are more knowingly USING stolen merchandise than stealing it yourself... im sure that makes a difference...

and let me ask you a question, if you created something- anything... and you wanted your creation to be seen... and the viewers option is to either see it illegally or never see it... what would you rather have??? that potential viewer to never see your work, or see it illegally and potentially telling other people to see it too??

It not only is a victimless crime, but the crime itself can benefit the "victim"...

I see this to be a win-win situation for everyone...

If I wanted it to be seen for free, I would make that available. But for you to make that decision for me? That is stealing.

Arguing otherwise is nothing more than trying to justify your actions. It isn’t your product to decide if it should be free or not. You have no right, whatsoever to make that decision.

Peacock launches tomorrow, Wednesday, July 15, 2020, with its marquee new show being Brave New World!

CNBC: "NBC Is Leaning Toward Making Its Peacock Streaming Service Free to Everyone"

That is, supported with ads/commercials instead of a subscription price.

This would be a big departure from the revenue strategy used by all other major streaming services.

Follow-up on the above: Peacock will have three tiers:

- free: Peacock Free

- $5 / mo: Peacock Premium with ads

- $10 / mo: Peacock Premium with no ads

The difference between Free and Premium is that not all shows will be available on Free, and broadcast episodes get delayed by one week before being put on Free.

well, if this is the plan, they are going to be in trouble.... 10 dollars is a lot of money when compared with the other streaming....

people will want the free but it has to be better than ON DEMAND...

More so, if i am going to have to pay that much per month just to see Psych 2, i will just pirate it... that's all i want to see anyways...

I'm in.

I am on a 3-month free trial through google(Premium w/ ads.) Currently, I can only watch on android mobile devices and iphone. Next week PS4 will have an app for the theater room TV. App is a little clunky so far. Pretty good content library in my opinion.

Yet to see how well NBCUniversal has produced their original shows.

I pay the extra fee on Hulu to avoid commercials. I would not bother with Hulu otherwise.

if nbc is going the ad route, they are shooting themselves in the foot.
I think it all depends on how services chose to do their ads. I have the ad version of hulu via sprint. I find when watching movies it's generally longer ad(s) up front and then straight shot after, which is perfect. Had the same experience when watching Psych 2 today on Peacock, though I tried another movie out and it was one of the cases where ads were throughout the movie and it's just at random times, so it's very jarring and not a good movie watching experience.

Watched the first 4 episodes of Intelligence on Peacock last night. Pretty entertaining, was expecting a little more but will continue watching.
One thing I noticed is that the ad breaks are in really weird spots. Like mid-dialogue. They'll need to fix that.
