Hopefully third and Grantham resides in Gainesville Florida until the end of time.

I remember when A&M thought they made the steal of the century by landing Chavis.

There were Clemson folks very upset that we didn't make a play for Chief when we hired Venables.

He was one of the best in the late 90's/early 00's but the game changed and he never made the adjustment.

Still don't understand what Chad Morris was thinking after seeing what Chavis' defenses were like at A&M and hiring him for $1.5 million after saying he was going to hire the best DC in college football.

It's like the only thing he remembered was when LSU played Clemson in the 2012 Chick-Fil-A Bowl. Some coaches that make really strange retread hires I feel like never pay attention to what's going on in college football every Saturday because they are so focused on their own team 24/7. Or they are familiar with them because they coached against them at one point 5 years ago and think they are a good coach based on that one game.

I rather have Chavis.
Weird how coaching hired work out. Steele was a mediocre DC at best when he was at LSU. Steele has been pretty solid as far as I have seen so far at Auburn.

Steele has been fantastic. In fact when Arkansas came after Malzahn I told everyone we should let him go give the reins to Steele for 3mm, give him 1mm for both new DC and OC (if needed), 1mm for stay bonuses for rest of existing staff. Gus’ buyout would cover most of it and we would have saved about 3mm going forward.

ADs in the SEC are idiots but I do have high hopes for our new one.

Mediocre at Clemson as well, maybe getting let go lit a fire under him to get better

His failures at Clemson were a major reason I wanted no part of him. Heard he was panicking during the WVU game and was calling packages and stunts that weren’t even run at the school.

And maybe it was more his tenure at LSU that lit a fire. He was hired at Auburn, but Les Miles had a habit of being kind to coaches and letting them say they decided to go elsewhere. No disrespect to Auburn, but look at the fight LSU put up for Aranda when A&M came knocking. There was no resistance when he left for Auburn. It was clearly a mutual parting of ways, but it truly worked out for all parties.

The Chief and I crossed paths at UT. Our matriculations overlapped.
