:pound::pound::pound:

I do remember one time, they kept trying to get me to pitch. Think i was 11 or 12. Spent half the season working on me. Always being tall for my age I had a slinky arm and could throw some good heat. Get up in the game. I mentally fell apart and walked 3 straight batters. That was the most embarrassing trot to right field in my life.

I always liked right field. You get to uncork some big throws.
Nobody ever hit the ball to right field when I played. Lefties were rare, you always stuck the worst player in right field

I like the guys that try to throw out the batter from Right Field on what is normally a base hit. I remember a guy that played for the Phillies/Tigers named Glenn Wilson that was always a threat to do that. I think Jeff Francoer did it a few times too.

When I was really young and playing local little league ball. That was the case. At like 8, 9, 10, etc. only a few kids on each team really hit to the outfield consistently. Most are righties and they kids just like to pull.

I didn't start playing OF until 16. I was a catcher. We had a senior catcher who would go on to play at Notre Dame and I wasn't going to beat him out as a Sophomore. I had a big arm and RF is good for that. Gave me a shot there and I won a spot in the lineup. Having a second position was awesome as a catcher in travel ball and then into college ball as well. I never had to leave the lineup when I had a game off behind the plate. Compared to catching - playing OF is resting.

You still generally put your worst fielding OF in RF because in most stadiums you don’t need range to cover it.
