saw an interesting oldie last night:

The Beginning or the End (1947)

Docu-Drama about the development of the H-bomb. Roughly the first half of the movie covers the time period from when the decision was made to start development until the first test bomb was detonated. The remainder covers the events between then and Hiroshima.

El Camino. It was okay but I felt like you're not missing anything important if you skip it.

I just watched Schindler's List for the first time yesterday. Hard to believe that I put that off for 27 years.

It's very moving. It just doesn't seem possible humans can do these things to one another in the, relatively speaking, modern age.

Spectral - I'd give it 2.5-3 out of 5 stars. It's worth a watch if you like sci-fi movies but it's not something I have any desire to ever watch again.

Just watched “White Boy Rick”. True story about a kid who grew up in Detroit. I knew the background of the real life story before watching it. I think it made the movie better but that is just my opinion.

great cast. Worth watching

The Old Guard, new Netflix movie. 6.5/10

A group of mercenaries, all centuries-old immortals with the ablity to heal themselves, discover someone is onto their secret, and they must fight to protect their freedom.

Charlize Theron, still hotter than ever is the main immortal.

Just watched Greyhound on Apple TV. I won’t say much (so as to not give it away). War movies are my favorites and especially WWII movies. I thought it was ok... not great. I realize that it’s tough to develop a storyline given that the battlefield is the ocean but if I compare it to the original Midway movie (which also was a sea battle... for the most part) it just doesn’t stack up. I found the movie to have limited characters and not much depth to the those there were. Also, despite all the technological advances available now as opposed to when Midway was made I just didn’t think Greyhound did as good a job.

Worth seeing for sure but there are certainly better WWII movies out there.

Thanks, I will put it on my list. Where you find it?

An entertaining movie I found available on YouTube -

A Matter of WHO (1961)

Terry-Thomas plays a WHO investigator tracking down the source of a smallpox breakout - sort of the British version of "Panic in the Streets". Of course, with Thomas in the lead, it's not entirely serious. There's a rather involved mystery aspect involving oil dealers that Thomas needs to unravel to solve the underlying smallpox issue.

Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler. Definitely not a comedy. Not a bad flick. Adele Dazeem (Idina Menzel) is also in it.

Rollerball

I haven’t seen this since I was a kid. Probably on laserdisc.

Well, that certainly did not age well. I couldn’t stop laughing at how stupid it was the entire time.

2/10

I wanted to smash my head with a rock after watching this. I thought it was awful. It was a rec to my son and we watched it together. He came away with the same conclusion, "why would anyone recommend this movie"?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

LOL. What a stupid movie. Soooooo glad Whedon went back and did HIS version of the story rather than the garbage he had to do to get the movie made.

That said, amazing supporting/extra cast...

Hillary Swank (2 future Oscars)
Ben Affleck (extra-speaking) (2 future Oscars)
Thomas Jane
Seth Green (extra)
Rikki Lake (extra-speaking)

3/5 on its own merits
7/5 based on the fact it lead to basically the entire Whedon-verse.

I finally watched John Wick. So they made 3 of these things so far, huh? Different strokes. I like the occasional "super badass defeats the forces of evil" revenge fantasy, but I think I'll pass on the other 2. 5/10

I watched all 3 pretty much back to back. I loved them for what they are. Shootem up action with cool ways to kill.

These are the movies I watch and turn off all parts of the brain except for the action and fun.
